It is with saddened but proud hearts that we announce the retirement of our Women’s Soccer Head Coach Angie Correia. Coach Angie has been with the team for the last nine years and in that time, she truly changed the culture of our team and athletic department.
A former Portuguese national team player, NJ Wildcat, USLW team member, Angie was a true role model for our Women’s soccer players and created an environment that helped build their esteem and their talents both on and off the field. As a college player at Dominican College (2005-2009), Angie was All-Academic and All-CACC throughout her career and was named the 2005 Freshman of the Year.
Promoted to head coach in 2017, Coach Angie raised the bar for all future teams. In 2018, the Women’s Soccer team played all the way to third place in the nation. In the middle of the 2021 season, she earned her 50th win all but ensuring her place in the Union College history books. Coach Angie truly set an example for her players to strive for excellence in the classroom and on the field which led her and her teams to appearances at National Championships, and multiple All-Academic player recognitions.

Today we announce the end of a legacy. Our Men’s Soccer Head Coach, Coach Alex Louis, has officially retired. Coach Alex has been serving the athletic community of Union College since 1996. He proudly provided us with twenty-five years of dedicated service and tremendous accomplishments.
The most recognizable achievement of Coach Alex was in 2009 when he was named Coach of the Year and led the Union Owls to their first ever National Championship. While this would be enough for most coaches, Coach Alex also led his teams to District IV, Region XIX, and Garden State Athletic Association Championships in 2003, 2004, 2007, 2009, 2010, and 2011. Over the years, Coach Alex has led his teams to a combined effort earning more than 300 wins making Union College a recognizable name for Men’s Soccer.
Coach Alex was one of the longest tenured coaches at Union College, and over those years has impacted dozens of athletes. He believes in the success of an athlete as a whole person, not just as a player on the field. We will miss Coach Alex tremendously and wish him all the best in his retirement.
