This week’s Where We Once Walked series features current photos of Pierce Hall at Mount Aloysius College.

In the mid 1990s, planning got under way at Mount Aloysius College to build a new science building. Designed by Hayes, Large of Altoona, PA, Pierce Hall is the newest academic building to be added to the campus. The building houses most of the science/allied health courses and contains basic science labs, radiography labs, and a surgical technology lab.

Fast forward to 2018, Pierce Hall was renovated by IKM Architecture based out of Pittsburgh. The expansion added lecture spaces, lab spaces, classrooms, offices, and communal learning spaces. As seen in one of the photos, there is a space in Pierce Hall where you can write on the wall with expo markers while studying!

This week’s Where We Once Walked series features current photos of the Mountie Success Commons & Library at Mount Aloysius College.

The Mountie Success Commons & Library recently went through a two-phase renovation project which was completed in the summer of 2024. The facility serves as the library and houses tutoring services, career services, and a cybersecurity lab.

The library holds over 19,000 books, audiovisual materials, pamphlets, artifacts on theology, religious studies, philosophy, and related materials.

There are many desktop computers and study rooms within the Mountie Success Commons & Library that allow students to study in order to prepare for exams or collaborate on group projects. The building is now open 24/7 for Mountie students so that they can use the facility to study at their convenience.

This week’s Where We Once Walked series features past photos of the Library (when it was in the Main Building and where it is currently located) at Mount Aloysius College.

For many years, the library was located within the Main Building. At one point, it was specifically located where Wolf Kuhn Gallery currently is.

One of the requirements for Mount Aloysius to be considered a junior college in the late 1930s was that the library had to have over four thousand volumes. By 1982, the library had over 30,000 volumes, an audio visual department, and over two hundred periodicals.

It became apparent that the library needed its own building. In 1995, under the leadership of President Pierce, architects L.R. Kimball & Associates of Ebensburg completed the construction of the new library. Situated on top of a hill which overlooks the rest of the campus, the library is an impressive and spacious 31,000-square-foot facility. As of 2017, the library holds over 85,000 books in addition to over 13,000 ebooks and a collection of print journals, DVDs, audio recordings, and computers.

Stay tuned for next week as we take a look at what the library currently looks like at Mount Aloysius College!

As we continue to get closer to meeting our goal of 150 donors, we want to share another generational Mountie family!

Meet Patty and Nancy Wagner! Nancy graduated from the Mount in '93, with Patty set to graduate in 2028.

Nancy shares, "One of the main reasons I chose the Mount was because they offered all the night classes needed to obtain my degree so I could work full time and continue my education. To me, the Mount means family." When referring to Patty, Nancy said, "My daughter was recruited by quite a few colleges for softball and we traveled all over to find the 'perfect fit'. I was thrilled when she decided Mount Aloysius was the college that fit best. Not only would she be close to home, but our family could attend her softball games and be there for her and her college friends.

Patty reflects, "I chose Mount Aloysius College because of the community. While visiting and touring colleges, each college touched on how everyone supports each other and how they are a part of a close knit community, however, Mount Aloysius College goes above and beyond supporting peers and engaging within the community. Being a local of the Mount allowed me to truly see how Mount Aloysius College engages and changes the lives of younger generations by applying the Mercy values."

As we lead up to Founders’ Day on May 14th, we are wanting to feature a generational Mountie family!

Meet Morgan and Cortney Langerholc! Cortney is a proud grad of ’10 and ’17, and her daughter Morgan is set to graduate in 2028.
The Langerholc’s experiences at the Mount highlight the College as both a place of belonging and a foundation for lifelong purpose.

Cortney Langerholc reflects, “When I look back on my journey at the Mount, I can trace everything I've become to the doors that this college opened for me. It wasn't just a place where I earned a degree; it was a place that awakened a calling inside of me. Here I found people who believed in me, experiences that shaped me, and the confidence to step into a profession that has become my life's greatest fulfillment. This college did not just prepare me for a career; it prepared me for a purpose....and for that, I am eternally grateful.”

Morgan shares, “I chose the Mount because of how welcoming it felt whenever I toured. Everyone was so friendly and genuine, and I knew that I wanted to be a part of a campus that exhibited those values. I knew immediately that I could see myself fitting in at the Mount, and choosing to come to this school was the best decision I've made.”

Join us on Founders’ Day to help make a difference for all future Mounties!

This week’s Where We Once Walked series features current photos of the Health and Physical Fitness Center (Bertschi) at Mount Aloysius College .

Last week, we posted the history of the Health and Physical Fitness Center which was renamed to the Bertschi Center and Technology Commons (referred to as "Bertschi") after the passing of Sister Virginia Bertschi (Sister Ginny) in 2009. Bertschi was transformed into an aux gym/study area after the building of the new gym (ACWC) on campus in 2014.

Bertschi became a hub for students to study, socialize, and collaborate including computer tables, couches, and study spaces. The Communications/Marketing Department is also located in Bertschi.

The Bertschi Center provides ample space for formal dinners and events as well as Intermural sports and activities. In this post, you will see photos that show three courts in Bertschi where students frequently play pickleball. Come out and play pickleball today at the Bertschi Center!

Stay tuned for next week as we take a look at the library at Mount Aloysius College!
