Position Summary: Kenton County Public Library of Covington, KY is seeking to hire several part-time, temporary Children's Summer Reading Programmers to design and implement programs for children as part of our Summer Outreach Program in schools and community centers. This temporary position also oversees book circulation at the program sites. ABOUT KENTON COUNTY PUBLIC LIBRARY
The Kenton County Public Library serves everyone in our community by creating lifelong readers and learners and inspiring imagination through a wide variety of resources and services. We help people to connect to the online world, know their community past and present, and provide comfortable, welcoming, and safe places, both virtual and physical, to gather together or work alone.
For about 18 years, we have provided a Summer Outreach Program for children in our community to prevent summer slide. The program takes place in either schools or community centers and we also promote our Summer Reading Club through this program. Each year our Children’s Summer Reading Programmers enjoy the opportunity to really make a difference in the lives of the children we serve.
A DAY IN THE LIFE AS A CHILDREN'S SUMMER READING PROGRAM PROGRAMMER
The Children’s Summer Reading Programmers come together and collaborate to create summer outreach literacy activities for school-aged children. The activities you develop are age-appropriate and cater to a multicultural and developmentally diverse juvenile population typically aged between 5 and 13 years old.
You enjoy teaching and encouraging a love for reading as you attend elementary schools and community outreach locations. Additionally, you oversee book circulation at each location on a weekly basis so the children can select and enjoy a variety of the books the library has to offer. At each location, you promote the Kenton County Public Library Summer Reading Program and distribute reading logs and prizes to participating children.
Qualifications:
* High school diploma or equivalent
* Experience working with school-aged children
* Valid driver’s license and use of personal vehicle to drive to and from points of service and the library with collection, program, and technology supplies
* Ability to stand for long periods of time
* Ability to bend, kneel, and reach to retrieve or shelve library materials
* Ability to carry items weighing 20-30 lbs and push book trucks or bins weighing 100 lbs
College is a plus! Education in the field of teaching or child development is preferred, but not required. Do you enjoy teaching children? Do you have excellent customer service and communication skills? If so, apply today!

WORK SCHEDULE
This is a temporary position with a part-time 20-hour workweek for approximately 8 weeks during the summer. The typical schedule is usually Monday through Friday during the day but may include some community events that fall outside of this schedule.
