Building partnerships!

UAM Sustainable Trades Alliance staff recently visited the Suzano mill in Pine Bluff to meet with company representatives and discuss workforce needs, industry trends, and professional skills training opportunities. We appreciate Suzano taking the time to share insights and explore ways to help strengthen the workforce pipeline in southeast Arkansas.

On April 22, the University of Arkansas at Monticello College of Technology-Crossett (UAM-CTC) hosted an awards ceremony, which included the induction of students into the UAM-CTC chapter of the National Technical Honor Society (NTHS).

Students receiving invitations to join NTHS have completed no fewer than 12 credit hours of technical coursework, while sustaining a GPA of 3.5 or higher. In addition, students must receive a recommendation from at least one technical instructor. Kim Wallis serves as the chapter faculty sponsor at UAM-CTC and inducted twenty-one students into NTHS.

The inductees were Ashton Bailey, Zion Baines, David Barajas, James Boothe, Colby Cathey, Kyle Cockrell, Dalton Craig, Jeannette Harris, Stratton Herring, Brittany Hires, Elizabeth Martinez, Logan Massey, Amanda Murphy, Asia Taylor, Ashley Thornburg, Owen Wilson and Peyton Yarbrough.

This year, UAM-CTC inducted high school students into NTHS for the first time. High school inductees were Railey Greenwood from Hermitage High School, Addison McDougald from Warren High School, Korbin Summerland from Hamburg High School and Mileigh Tillman from Warren High School.

“This year marked one of the largest induction classes in our chapter’s history, and we are thrilled to recognize these students for achieving our highest honor in Career and Technical Education,” Wallis said.

During the ceremony, 35 college students and 14 high school students were recognized for earning two National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) credentials each. Eleven high school students were recognized for earning one NCCER credential each. Additionally, 30 students were recognized for receiving a National Career Readiness Certificate (CRC). Based on their exam scores, students earned one of four levels. Thirty certificates were earned, including three platinum, five gold, 12 silver and 10 bronze.

Dr. Tracy Tucker, vice chancellor of UAM-CTC, said, “As always, we are elated to celebrate the successes and achievements of our students. This year’s class of inductees includes four high school students who are earning a technical certificate while they are graduating from high school. A special thanks to Devin McDiarmid, director at Southeast Arkansas Community Based Education Center in Warren, and Eddy Tucker, principal at Hamburg High School, for providing the opportunities for these students to take the necessary courses for this credential. This is a first for us, and we look forward to this pathway being open to many more students in our partner districts.”
