As we mark the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001, Allegany College of Maryland invites our community to reflect on the lives lost, the heroes who responded, and the lasting impact of that day.
This September, Student Life is offering two opportunities for ACM students to learn, remember, and honor the legacy of 9/11:
📍 Wednesday, September 9 | Shanksville Volunteer Fire Department Travel to the department whose crew was among the first to arrive at the Flight 93 impact site. Chief Terry Shaffer will share the department’s experiences as first responders and discuss the continuing impact of 9/11, as well as ways we can make a positive difference in our own communities.
🕔 Approximately 5–9 p.m. | Transportation & food provided

📍 Friday, September 11 | Flight 93 National Memorial Join us in Shanksville for the 25th Anniversary September 11th Observance and Ceremony, including time to explore the memorial, visit the crash site, and attend the afternoon ceremony featuring speakers, musical tributes, and a wreath-laying ceremony.

ACM students will have priority for available seats. If space remains, faculty and staff will have the opportunity to participate. Transportation is limited, and registration does not guarantee a seat; participants will receive an email confirming their status.
We remember. We honor. We serve.
