Hands-on fun extends beyond camp! The Kids Culinary Camp at Texas Native Health gave children an exciting opportunity to explore how growing, preparing, and enjoying fresh foods can support lifelong health. Each child received a take-home gardening basket filled with potting soil, seeds for tomatoes, sweet peppers, basil, and cilantro, starter basil and sweet pepper plants, and supplies to begin growing their own food at home.
By pairing culinary experiences with gardening, the Food as Medicine initiative helped extend learning beyond the camp and into each family’s home. This program was made possible through the Be the CHANGE Grant supported by the Health Foundation, in partnership with Texas Native Health and the UT Southwestern Physician Assistant Studies Program.
