Gaston College Audio/Video Tech and Sports Media Tech The AVPT/SMT Program teaches audio and video skills, with hands-on production courses. We are across the hall from WSGE-FM 91.7; rooms 117-121

It offers a multi-camera TV studio, multi-track recording studio, student Internet radio, video field production, paid production work, and internships. The main office, studios and labs are in the Craig building on the north end of the Dallas campus.

Mikhaela Gene Abarientos has been intrigued by movies and how they are made since she was a child. As a recent Gaston graduate, she's now on her way to pursuing her dreams in her home country, the Philippines, and plans to travel there this summer to further her studies.

"Everything happens for a reason, and the special thing about my journey here at Gaston is the connection that I have created with people here," Mikhaela said. "The people around me were truly amazing and I will cherish it forever."

It’s graduation week at Gaston College and we want to send out a big congrats to Ashleigh Parra. She was the 2026 recipient of the John “Johnny B” Barkley Scholarship, which is awarded each year to a deserving student who volunteers or interns at WSGE. Ashleigh was a summer intern and also hosted From The Horn, offered in partnership with Gaston College Audio/Video Tech and Sports Media Tech. We’re grateful for the time she shared with WSGE while she was at Gaston and wish her all the best!
