DBU Music Business

DBU Music Business All of this is exactly what we offer. The Music Industry offers some of the most glamorous and exciting careers of any field. And that’s not all . . .

To work in the Music Industry today, you will need to begin with a quality education - one in which you study the liberal arts and one that includes specific instruction in your career choice. A career in the Music Business is an opportunity to enjoy recognition, earn financial rewards, and most importantly, make a living doing what you love most. And now, because of some major restructuring, the

Music Industry, which has been tightly controlled by record and radio conglomerates, is now opening to new, independent artists and businesses. Today, there is more opportunity for more people to enjoy a successful career in the Music Business than ever before. But, the road to success is not any easier. To work in the Music Industry today, you will need to be better than ever. To prepare, begin with a quality education - one in which you study the liberal arts. This type ef education teaches you how to think, analyze and plan - skills that allow you to build not only a quality career, but also a quality life. Then, the best education for you ought to also include specific instruction in your career choice. Different degrees for different careers...

If you are an "artistic" person, interested in a career as possibly a live performer, studio musician, songwriter, recording engineer or worship leader, then our Bachelor of Arts in Music Business or the Bachelor of Science in Music Business are for you. These programs feature courses in musical development - a key ingredient now recognized as critical to your long-term success - along with general business courses and Music Business core courses. Then, to give you the "edge" in your career preparation, we've added advanced study for you in either:

Live Performance

Recording

Songwriting

Worship Leadership

On the other hand, if you love music, but are more suited to a management or marketing career as perhaps a business manager, concert producer, talent agent or music salesperson, we offer the Bachelor of Business Administration degree with a concentration in Music Business. This degree combines the core business courses of the BBA with the core Music Business courses of the BA and BS in Music Business. Smaller, yet highly innovative companies will likely dominate the Music Industry of the future. No doubt, these new companies will consist of well-educated individuals with creative ideas and vision. For this reason, we have infused all of our degress with the study of entrepreneurship - the ability to create, grow and manage a successful venture. With these skills, you can either work for yourself or become the most valuable member of any company. The Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex commands national attention in the entertainment business. In addition to both television production and state-of-the-art recording studios, numerous other recording studios, booking agents, concert promoters, commercial production houses and major performance venues are located in the area. Because of DBU’s close proximity to the DFW music industry, our degrees in Music Business offer students the opportunity of actually working in the industry. During the senior year, Music Business majors may apply for an internship with a local business that matches their area of interest. It’s a distinct advantage. GRAMMY® UNIVERSITY NETWORK

One exciting new addition to Music Business at DBU is GRAMMY UNIVERSITY NETWORK. This is a unique organization created by the Recording Academy (producers of the Grammy Awards) specifically for college students pursuing a career in Music Business. The advantage of GRAMMY U is that it helps us prepare you for your career by providing "out of the classroom" experiences such as networking with industry professionals (including major celebrities), educational programs presented by industry experts and performance opportunities. Take a look at some of the things our GRAMMY U chapter is doing! According to Paul McCartney, even the Beatles "... were pretty neatly ripped off because they didn't know anything about the business."
