We’re incredibly proud of our Kid City, Cat City, and Cat University programs! Roan and Westwood Kid City students celebrated Lights On Afterschool alongside their reading mentors from across the community. Each week, our mentor readers—volunteers from local organizations—share their love of reading, and our students eagerly look forward to spending time with their reading buddies.

At our other sites, students joined in the celebration with hands-on learning and exploration. They tackled an escape room challenge, practiced math skills using manipulatives, and participated in a Leaf Hunt & Sorting Challenge, turning nature into their classroom. Our young explorers collected leaves, sorted them by color, size, and shape, and discovered the beauty and diversity of the natural world through curiosity and conversation.

This week kicked off the start of Roan and Westwood Reads for the school year! At Westwood Kid City, students in Kindergarten through 2nd grade will meet with a reading mentor once a week. At Roan Kid City, 2nd and 3rd grade students will also receive weekly support from a reading mentor. The excitement was contagious as both mentors and mentees connected over books and built new relationships. We are deeply thankful for the ongoing support of our community partners: Engineered Floors, Dalton Utilities, United Way, First Baptist Church, The Early Childhood Initiative, and Mentor Georgia.

🌟 Our hardworking 4th graders had a blast at Park Creek Kid City this week! 🌟

🧩 Parts of Speech Sort
Students worked together to sort words into nouns, verbs, and adjectives, then challenged themselves by using each word in their very own sentences. Such creative writing and teamwork on display!

🎲 Spelling Dice Game
Next, they teamed up to study their spelling words—rolling dice and writing each word they rolled. Fun + learning = spelling success!

We are so proud of their effort and excitement for language arts! 💪📚

During our first week of Kid City, we welcomed over 240 students! Both students and teachers spent time building connections and practicing teamwork. Learning and fun took place all around — in the gym, in the classroom, and out on the playground.

Mrs. Nava shared that students at City Park Kid City have been strengthening their teamwork and sportsmanship skills. These snapshots highlight their participation in a cup stacking challenge, an exciting volleyball game, and a fast-paced round of cat-and-mouse freeze tag.

Today was our first day of Kid City, and we welcomed 226 students from our six elementary schools. It was such a fun and exciting start, and we’re so grateful for the chance to work with each one of them!
