East Germany in Mozambique: Private Photographs of a forgotten time. A Conversation with Dr. Katrin Bahr, Assistant Professor at German Studies at Centre College.

Katrin Bahr grew up in the German Democratic Republic and considers herself a 3rd-generation East German. She lived in Beira, Mozambique, from 1982–84 with her family because her father was recruited as an engineer to help reconstruct railroad lines. In her research, she offers a detailed look at the everyday life and work experiences of East German citizens living in Mozambique through private photographs in order to promote the understanding of East Germany’s solidarity efforts through the lens of the individual experience.
