In the Fall of 2012, an idea to form a chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated in Darlington, SC began with the vision of three members: Lena Thomas-Howard, Camilla Jones, and Charlene McKnight. In October 2016, nineteen members, Louise Conyers, Stephany Delaine, Brittney Dent, Tori Fulmore, Siedah Garrett, LaWanza Ham-James, Maria James, Marvetta Johnson, Camilla Jones, Crystal Ladson

, Charlene McKnight, Alanna Hall, Kenyatta L. Jordan, Jasmine Mingo, Kalia Pringle, Lacey Robinson, Meltrece Thomas Coe, Lena Thomas-Howard, and Tracie Williams-Burns, began the chartering process. The name chosen for the interest group was The Emerging PEARLS of Darlington (PEARLS: Prolific, Engaged, Articulate, Resilient, Leaders of Service). The interest group began to serve the Darlington community by implementing the sorority's five targets: Educational Enrichment, Health Promotion, Family Strengthening, Environmental Ownership, and Global Impact. In August 2017, two additional members joined the Interest Group: Amber Jones Hankins and Pamela Sims. With twenty-one members, The Emerging PEARLS of Darlington worked hard to implement the international targets and programs addressing the needs of the local community. The Board of Directors of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® approved the establishment of the chapter [Omega Omega Omega] in February 2018. The Darlington, SC Graduate Chapter charter was signed by South Atlantic Regional Director Sharon Brown Harriott on Sunday, March 25, 2018. The women of Omega Omega Omega are wearing green in support of Mental Health Awareness Month and reminding our community that healing, hope, and support matter. 💚

Mental wellness is just as important as physical wellness, and no one should have to navigate difficult moments alone. Through compassion, conversation, and community care, we can help break the stigma surrounding mental health and encourage one another to seek support when needed.

If you or someone you love needs help, resources are available. Please remember: asking for help is a sign of strength, not weakness.

“When we support one another, we strengthen our entire community.”

Voting is more than a right. It is our voice, our power, and our responsibility.

As early voting begins tomorrow, May 26th, make a plan not only to cast your ballot, but also to encourage your family, friends, neighbors, and community to do the same. A simple reminder, phone call, text, or conversation can make a difference.

Too many people fought, marched, and sacrificed for us to sit this one out. Our voices are strongest when we show up together. Show up. Speak up. Vote early.

As Mental Health Awareness Month comes to a close, you are reminded that caring for yourself is not a one-time practice. It’s something you deserve every day.

Celebrate the progress you’ve made, give yourself grace for the hard days, and continue choosing peace, rest, support, and healing. Small steps still matter, and so do you.

Mind. Body. Spirit. All deserve care.

Checking in on yourself is not selfish. It’s necessary.

This month, let’s normalize resting without guilt, asking for help, protecting our peace, and making space for joy. Even the smallest reset can help us show up better for ourselves and for others.

Take a moment this week to pause, breathe, and give yourself the same care you so freely give to everyone else.

This morning, the members of Omega Omega Omega Chapter came together for our Adopt-A-Highway cleanup as part of our Enhance Our Environment initiative.
From laughter and fellowship to service and stewardship, today was a reminder that sisterhood is also about showing up for the communities we serve. Along our adopted stretch of roadway in Darlington, we worked together to help keep our city clean, beautiful, and welcoming for all.
We are proud to see our chapter’s commitment recognized through the Adopt-A-Highway signage, but even more proud of the hands and hearts behind the work.
Service to All Mankind is more than a motto. It is action, impact, and community in motion.

Black History is more than remembrance. It is legacy, impact, and the continued work of uplifting our communities through justice, compassion, and purpose.

As we celebrate Black History 365, we pay homage to those who came before us and remain committed to carrying their legacy forward.

Mental health is just as important as physical health.

This week, we’re focusing on healing the mind, body, and spirit through prayer, rest, support, hope, and renewing our thoughts. Sometimes strength looks like speaking up, asking for help, taking a pause, or simply giving yourself grace.

You do not have to carry everything alone. Check on your friends. Check on yourself.

Healing is a journey, not a destination. 💚🩷
