In the Fall of 2012, an idea to form a chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated in Darlington, SC began with the vision of three members: Lena Thomas-Howard, Camilla Jones, and Charlene McKnight. In October 2016, nineteen members, Louise Conyers, Stephany Delaine, Brittney Dent, Tori Fulmore, Siedah Garrett, LaWanza Ham-James, Maria James, Marvetta Johnson, Camilla Jones, Crystal Ladson
, Charlene McKnight, Alanna Hall, Kenyatta L. Jordan, Jasmine Mingo, Kalia Pringle, Lacey Robinson, Meltrece Thomas Coe, Lena Thomas-Howard, and Tracie Williams-Burns, began the chartering process. The name chosen for the interest group was The Emerging PEARLS of Darlington (PEARLS: Prolific, Engaged, Articulate, Resilient, Leaders of Service). The interest group began to serve the Darlington community by implementing the sorority's five targets: Educational Enrichment, Health Promotion, Family Strengthening, Environmental Ownership, and Global Impact. In August 2017, two additional members joined the Interest Group: Amber Jones Hankins and Pamela Sims. With twenty-one members, The Emerging PEARLS of Darlington worked hard to implement the international targets and programs addressing the needs of the local community. The Board of Directors of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® approved the establishment of the chapter [Omega Omega Omega] in February 2018. The Darlington, SC Graduate Chapter charter was signed by South Atlantic Regional Director Sharon Brown Harriott on Sunday, March 25, 2018.
