๐Ÿฆˆ Sharks Supporting Sharks! ๐Ÿ’™

On August 25, 2026, students from the Barry and Judy Silverman College of Pharmacy โ€“ Puerto Rico Regional Campus came together for our Shark Mentor/Mentee Meet-Up in the PCM Lab.

The event brought together members of the Class of 2030, serving as mentees, with students from the Class of 2029, who are serving as their Shark Mentors. It was a wonderful opportunity for students to connect, build relationships, share experiences, and strengthen the sense of community that makes our College of Pharmacy so special.

Through the Shark Mentor Program, our returning students can provide guidance, encouragement, and insight to our newest Sharks as they navigate their Pharm.D. journey. These connections help create a supportive environment where students can learn from one another and grow together both academically and professionally.

๐Ÿ“ธ We are excited to share some moments from this memorable meet-up and celebrate the beginning of these new mentor/mentee connections!

Thank you to all of our Class of 2029 mentors for stepping into this important role, and welcome once again to our Class of 2030 mentees.

๐Ÿฆˆ๐Ÿ’™ Discover. Connect. Get Involved! | Student Organization Showcase

Students at the NSU Barry and Judy Silverman College of Pharmacy โ€“ Puerto Rico Regional Campus had the opportunity to explore the many ways they can become involved beyond the classroom during our Student Organization Showcase!

Throughout the event, students visited organization booths, connected directly with student leaders, learned about leadership roles and activities, and discovered the different opportunities available to become active members of our College of Pharmacy community.

We were proud to have representatives from AZO, NCPA, APhA, SCCP, and SSHP sharing their organizations, missions, and experiences with fellow Sharks. ๐Ÿฆˆ

Student organizations play an important role in the Pharm.D. journey by providing opportunities to develop leadership, teamwork, professional connections, service, and lifelong friendships while strengthening engagement within the pharmacy profession.

๐Ÿ‘ A special thank you to our Student Government Association (SGA) for their assistance in organizing the event and helping create an engaging opportunity for our students to connect with their peers and explore the many ways to get involved.

We look forward to seeing our Sharks find their place, take on new challenges, and continue building a strong and connected student community!

Get involved. Lead. Serve. Make an impact. Fins Up! ๐Ÿฆˆ๐Ÿ’™

We are proud to congratulate Soon H. Yang, PharmD, on the publication of her first sole-authored article in Annals of Pharmacotherapy!

๐Ÿ“š โ€œApixaban Dose Selection in Kidney Failure: Reconciling Pharmacokinetics and Clinical Outcomesโ€

Yang SH. Apixaban Dose Selection in Kidney Failure: Reconciling Pharmacokinetics and Clinical Outcomes. Ann Pharmacother. 2026 [Epub ahead of print].

This important review examines the complex and conflicting pharmacokinetic, clinical outcomes, and regulatory evidence surrounding apixaban dosing (5 mg vs 2.5 mg twice daily) in patients with kidney failure on hemodialysis and atrial fibrillation. The article provides a practical framework to help clinicians approach individualized apixaban dose selection in this challenging patient population.

๐Ÿ‘ Congratulations, Dr. Yang, on this outstanding scholarly achievement and important milestone!

Our Dean's Hour Series is off to a great start! ๐Ÿ‘

We were excited to welcome Julian Rodriguez, Pharm.D. ('14) back to NSU as our first Dean's Hour speaker of the year. As an officer in the United States Public Health Service Commissioned Corps, Dr. Rodriguez shared his unique career journey and introduced students to the many ways pharmacists can make an impact through public health and national service.

His story offered valuable insight into the profession and encouraged students to think broadly about the opportunities available after graduation.

Thank you, Dr. Rodriguez, for returning to inspire the next generation of pharmacists and for your continued dedication to the NSU Pharmily!

Learning is more than memorizing facts. It begins with curiosity, grows through reflection, and deepens when we take time to think critically about what we learn.

This week, challenge yourself to ask questions, reflect on new ideas, and seek understanding beyond the surface. The path to knowledge starts with wonder. ๐Ÿ’™
