UC Davis Give Day is now LIVE through 5pm on April 17, 2021
Thanks to those who have already donated! As part of the event, the Department of Materials Science and Engineering has secured a challenge grant from the Mizutani family which will unlock an extra $2500 if we receive THIRTY donations, irrespective of the dollar amount, by the end of Give Day at 5pm on April 17th, 2021. James Mizutani graduated with a B.S. degree in materials science and engineering in 2020 and his mother Courtney graduated from chemical engineering in 1987. We are going GREAT so far, receiving 19 donations. In addition, Interim Dean Gibeling just announced today that the two departments that receive "the greatest increase" in the number of donations compared to last year will receive an extra $4000/$2000. For reference, we received 24 donations last year. I hope that you can consider to help us meet these Give Day Challenges by donating to the Department. (FYI. The system counts individual donations, not names).

The direct link is:

https://giveday.ucdavis.edu/giving-day/34890/donate?des=127707&dept=34891

The minimum amount that the system will accept is $5 but I hope you can consider to contribute a bit more. The funds received during Give Day will fund Department activities such as updating the undergraduate teaching labs, supporting our senior design projects, student clubs such as the Material Advantage Student Chapter and the Materials Outreach Corporation, the Materials Magic Show at Picnic Day, and funding for graduate and undergraduate students.

Anti-Asian racism and anti-Asian sentiments can't be ignored. Hate has no place here. Aggies, please help spread the word that resources are available:
*Speak to a crisis counselor by calling SHCS at 530-752-0871 and pressing 0
*Asian Pacific Islander Retention Initiative: https://apiretention.ucdavis.edu
*Cross Cultural Center: https://ccc.ucdavis.edu/resources/community-resources

If you are wondering what you can do in support of our API community, you can also be an "UPSTANDER." Three things you can do to stand up against acts of hate, bias and bigotry:
1) Intervene
2) Delegate
3) Distract
