UC Davis Campus Judicial Board

UC Davis Campus Judicial Board Campus Judicial Board meetings are held every Tuesday evening from 5:00-6:00 pm.

One of the primary functions of the CJB is to conduct outreach to the campus community about the importance of academic honesty and personal integrity at UC Davis. Students on the Board participate in formal hearings regarding contested cases of student misconduct; in this capacity, Board members serve as panel members or as advisers to the referred or referring party. Throughout the course of the

year, CJB members also host events to provide informational resources to students about the UC Davis Code of Academic Conduct and the student disciplinary process. In addition, each member is expected to put in 3 hours a week working on outreach projects, formal hearings, etc.

The Campus Judicial Board is looking for students to join our 2021-2022 board. We help bring the student perspective to the disciplinary process on campus by participating in formal hearings for disputed cases of academic misconduct. CJB members work on a panel with University Faculty to come to a decision about the case. We go through one full day of training each quarter, as well as meet weekly to reinforce the skills needed to participate in formal hearings, such as objectivity, active listening, questioning, evidence evaluation, and more! As we inch closer to finals, we have more tips on how to avoid academic misconduct! 🙌🏽

Many companies that claim to help students with homework, essays, or tutoring are actually taking advantage of them. They market directly to students as a source of legitimate help, but promote academic misconduct and even copyright infringement. Here are some tips from the International Center for Academic Integrity for both students and instructors to help avoid these problems:

-During exams or other closed-note assignments, do not look to internet sites for the exact question given to you by instructors and copy the answer

-Do not post the exact (or very similar) exam question online for someone else to answer for you

-Instructors should create strong syllabus statements telling students to avoid these sites and let students know that even looking at them for course help could be an academic offense.

-Instructors should talk to students about the difference between looking at an answer online and understanding the thought process necessary to generate the answer, which is the goal of learning.

-Instructors should promote a wide variety of resources (writing workshops, tutoring centers, counselling services etc.) for students to support their academic success and maintain academic integrity.

We hope you all had a restful Thanksgiving! As we head into the final stretch of another remote quarter, we’d like to provide a very important tip on how to avoid academic misconduct while you navigate the remainder of your exams.

If your instructor prohibits the use of external applications or tabs/windows while you are taking an exam, don’t have anything else open, and don’t click out! Though this may seem like a simple rule, not following it (for any reason, even if by accident) constitutes a violation.

Hey Aggies! As COVID-19 cases begin to resurge while the season gets colder and the days get shorter, we encourage you all to take care of yourself and your mental health. It can be easy to avoid self-care due to the flux of our everyday lives; however, self-care helps prevent burnout. Remember: your health and state of mind comes first!

Hello again, Ags!!😄We wanted to share a few study tips with you all since the grind truly never stops throughout the quarter system. Using something like a planner or Google Calendar can help keep you organized and up to date with your to-do list. When it comes to actually hitting the books, start early! Giving yourself a little bit of time everyday to study will keep you from procrastinating and will keep your workload manageable. Lastly, do not forget resources are still widely available, even during this pandemic. Visit https://tutoring.ucdavis.edu for more!! 📚📝

Hi Aggies! We hope you are all doing well as you continue to tackle your exams and assignments. We’d like to take this time to remind everyone that although we are in an online environment, it is important that we continue to maintain academic integrity. 🌟

We can do this by familiarizing ourselves with ways to avoid academic misconduct. For instance, when taking an open book/open note exam on Canvas, this does NOT mean it is an open internet exam or a partner exam.🚫
