This technology will help us better understand how both hearing and deaf children learn, attend to, and process visual patterns. One of our main research studies is concerned with understanding how both hearing and deaf school-aged children learn complex visual and auditory patterns. Pattern learning is an important aspect of cognitive development, particularly in language acquisition. To deepen our knowledge in this area, we will have hearing and deaf children of diverse language backgrounds complete a series of visual and auditory tasks. Tracking children’s visual behaviors with an eye tracker will be essential to gaining a holistic understanding of cognitive development in diverse populations. Your support will help the Language Learning Lab at the UC Davis Center for Mind and Brain purchase a Tobii eye tracker which will support this important research!

Researchers at UC Davis are studying how children learn patterns

We want to understand how children learn visual and auditory patterns in their environments, and how this relates to their language development! 🗣️👩🏻‍💻

Your child will complete four in-lab tasks at the Language Learning Lab: one visual pattern task, one auditory pattern task, a shape-tracking task, and a receptive vocabulary assessment.

This study will take approximately 1 hour. You will receive a $10 Target gift card for your time and your child will receive a book, toy, and some stickers. 🧸🪀
