UCGHI Advocacy Initiative at UC Davis By working with representatives, this initiative hopes to garner support in Washington D.C. for these programs.

The mission of UCGHI’s Advocacy Initiative is to bolster US leadership in global health by empowering the University of California and the communities it serves to influence policies that promote the health of California and our global neighbors. The UC Davis UCGHI Advocacy Initiative unites students, faculty, and the Davis community to support global health efforts and to advocate for those effor

ts mainly within the Davis congressional district 3. This Davis initiative is led by 4 global health advocate interns. The overall initiative involves interns from all UC campuses, including UCSF Medical School and UC Hastings School of Law. These advocates are led by the UC Global Health Institute faculty and are taught public policy skills from Kyle House Group, a D.C.-based lobbying firm.

While it seems that the American healthcare debate may have subsided, the September 30th deadline is approaching. Representatives eager to repeal and replace Obamacare are scrambling again. Now, the Cassidy Graham Bill is on the table. This bill is very similar to the Better Care and Reconciliation Act that got lots of attention in July. Even though this is the second time around, it is just as important to reach out to your representatives to urge them to vote against this bill, especially the undecided senators Senator John McCain, Lisa Murkowski, U.S. Senator Susan Collins, Senator Pat Toomey, Senator John Kennedy, Senator Shelley Moore Capito.

There is little remaining health infrastructure, and of what's left is inadequate in treating civilians. The structure of the IS governance has much to do with these faults despite their attempt to grow the IS controlled health systems.

We have just launched our campaign to send letters to California Congressmen to urge them to prevent cuts to federal funding for global health. If you are against slashing funds to global health initiatives take 30 seconds to fill out this google form which would add your name to the letters sent to Congress. There is power in numbers.
