📚✨ Special Poetry Reading at UC Davis — This Week! ✨📚
We’re thrilled to welcome Rosa Alcalá—award‑winning poet, translator, editor, and educator—to UC Davis for a free public reading this week. Rosa is visiting us all the way from El Paso, Texas, and we hope you’ll join us for a rare chance to hear her work in person.
đź—“ Time: 10:30 AM (please note the unusual morning time!)
📍 Location: Wellman Hall, Room 102
🎟 Free & open to the public
🍩 Donuts will be provided
Rosa will read from her work for approximately 30 minutes, followed by an interactive Q&A. This is a wonderful opportunity to ask questions about poetry, literary translation, or her experience teaching in a bilingual MFA program.
Rosa Alcalá is an acclaimed poet and translator whose most recent poetry collection, YOU (Coffee House Press, 2024), has been widely celebrated.
Her honors include a Foundation for Contemporary Arts Grant to Artists Award, a Woodberry Poetry Room Creative Fellowship at Harvard, and a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship in Translation. Her translation work, Spit Temple: The Selected Performances of Cecilia Vicuña, was runner‑up for the PEN Translation Award.
Rosa’s poems and translations have appeared in The Atlantic, Harper’s, The Nation, Poetry, American Poetry Review, and The Best American Poetry series, among many others. She has also served as Guest Editor for the Academy of American Poets’ Poem‑a‑Day and is currently a Consulting Editor for the University of Chicago Press’s Phoenix Poets Series. She holds the DeWetter Endowed Chair in Poetry at the University of Texas at El Paso in the Department of Creative Writing and Bilingual MFA Program.
