This past spring, we were thrilled to host two interns from the Public History program—Scotty Cypher and Alondra Mallia—in the Special Collections & Archives. Their task was seemingly simple: create and install a new Wright Brothers exhibit for the reading room. As the semester went on, they learned just how much planning, organization, research, and encapsulating it takes to fill four display cases of unique material.

Hey students! Need a study break? Help us find Katharine!

The historical Katharine Wright—Wilbur and Orville's younger sister—traveled around the world. The cut-out Katharine that lives in our reading room seems to be traveling around the library! If you find her, take a selfie with her, and come up to the 4th floor to show us (check hours here: https://bit.ly/4d7Gops). You'll get a button as a prize 🎉🎉🎉

Good luck on finals!

Thursday was a full day for Special Collections & Archives! In the afternoon, we welcomed the Veterans Affairs History Office to view both Wright Brothers materials and items related to the National Soldiers' Home and Cemetery in Dayton. It was a fantastic gathering!

Then, in the evening, we invited the Scholars Association into the reading room during their annual banquet. They, too, were able to view Wright Brothers materials, as well as historical university items, and photographs and documents from the Rhine McLin Papers and the C.J. McLin Jr. Papers. Just like last year, we were inspired by the students' questions and their community involvement.

We 💚 reading room tours!

It's National Student Employee Appreciation Week! 🏆✏️💫

Where oh where would we be without our amazing student employees? Individually, they greet patrons in the reading room, digitize materials, transcribe interviews, label and arrange collections, rehouse photographs, type lists of files, and so much more! Together, they keep our department running smoothy.

Aaron, Alondra, Gabby, Genevieve, Ray'Ven, and Ren, it has been an amazing year! Thank you for everything you do!

You are invited to the 14th Annual Wright State University Public History Symposium! This is a fantastic opportunity for students in the history graduate program—including some of our own student workers!—to present research they have conducted and highlight the professional experience they have gained at historical sites, museums, and archives.

Program alum Hadley Drodge, Exhibits and Interpretation Specialist at the Ohio History Connection and National Afro-American Museum and Cultural Center, will deliver the keynote address.

See you there! 📚 📜
