******why do i need a bachelor's in sign language interpreting?******

The Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf, Inc., (RID), a national membership organization of professionals who provide sign language interpreting/ transliterating services for Deaf and Hard of Hearing persons, provides a National Testing System which certifies qualified interpreters. Recently, RID has mandated that all applicants obtain an associate’s degree by the year 2008 and a bachelor’s degree by the year 2012. Therefore, you cannot apply for RID certifications without an associate’s degree by 2008 or a bachelor’s degree by 2012. Your salary as a sign language interpreter can vary greatly if you are or are not certified by RID. Please check RID’s website for more information.
