A Statement from OGS Chancellor, Dr. David Anderson:

At a time when people across our country should be caught up in celebrating Black History Month, we are instead seeing the legacy of racism on full display in the highest office of our country. The pain that this causes and the outrage that follows echo the generations of people who have struggled, fought, and held on to hope for a better future. This is not an isolated moment that can be minimized as a mistake. This is not a joke that went too far. One of the reasons this hurts so deeply is because it is not surprising to see this as the headline story of today.

We have gotten used to being told to look past mean-spirited words spoken against minorities. It has become common to be given excuses to justify actions, words, and posts that are nothing less than abusive. We need to examine whether the high values that so many of us claim in our faith, our families, and to be at the foundation of our freedom are becoming less and less important in our public discourse and treatment of our neighbors. We can not claim to value love in our personal lives yet overlook the hate around us.

If there was ever a time for Gracism, now is that time.

You might be looking for your own personal way to stand for what is right when others are trying to minimize what is wrong. Let me offer three Gracism principles to be your guide.

1. I will STAND with you. This saying of a Gracist can speak volumes to those who feel like they are fighting their battles all alone. Find a way to your voice to denounce the abuse and your physical presence to show your support.

2. I will HEAL with you. This saying of a Gracist sees empathy and compassion as the starting line. True collective healing from wounds like the ones we see being inflicted, includes knowing that you hear the cries of their pain and it moves you to a genuine heartbreak to see your brother and sister being treated this way.

3. I will CELEBRATE with you. This saying of a Gracist is something that should not be forgotten at this moment. Black History Month is a time when the achievements of Black Americans, cultural beauty, and stories of overcoming can be uplifted and celebrated in a way that communicates dignity, value, and brotherhood.

I commend you to this critical, challenging, and deeply valuable work of Gracism.

Lift, Cover, Share, Honor, Stand, Consider, Celebrate, Heal. Dont be a racist, be a Gracist.

MLK, Jr. Day is more than a day to post a quote for OGS: it is part of our enduring legacy of leading faith-based constructive social change.

OGS Founder Dr. Hollis Green was on Martin Luther King, Jr.'s list of "100 Men Most Concerned About Civil Rights in the South," and OGS Chancellor, Dr. David Anderson, carries forward a legacy from his father, who worked with Dr. King in the 1960s.

I knew this day would eventually come. It is with a heavy heart that I announce the passing of the Omega/Oxford Graduate School founder and Chancellor Emeritus, Dr. Hollis L. Green. This is undoubtedly a turning point and a monumental milestone in the history of OGS.

It would be an understatement to say that Dr. Green was a force to be reckoned with, with the courage and audacity to found something as innovative and world-changing as Omega/Oxford Graduate School. There is much more to be said, and much more will be said in time, but I wanted to notify the OGS community of this sad news.

Dr. Green passed away peacefully in his home with his wife, Gail, yesterday. Last weekend, Drs. McClane, Ward, and I had the opportunity to go up the mountain to visit and pray with him. He recognized each of us by name, and we each got to hold his hand for extended periods and pray with him. Bryan Phillips, son of the late Joanne Phillips, spent several days helping Gail toward the end, and, of course, Dr. Green's son, Bart, was there to help as well. They are heroes, and Gail is a true Proverbs 31 champion of a wife and partner.

"Folding Up My Tent"
Dr. Green attended our Degree Day celebration in September, his last, and asked to address the crowd. It was remarkable because he was still in reasonably good health, but he said he knew, as Peter did, that it was time for him to "fold up his tent" (2 Peter 1:14). He then transferred his Chancellor's robe to Dr. David Anderson. It was moving and a historic moment:

"Like Peter, I know it's time for me to fold up my tent." -- Dr. Hollis Green, September 27, 2025
Reviving the Oxford Widow Watch
I will be asking alumni to step up and give to the "Oxford Widow Watch" to ensure we can continue paying his widow, Gail, the small monthly pension we paid Dr. Green. Dr. Green established the "Widow Watch" in the earliest years of OGS and has always had a heart for widows. His father died when he was young, and his mother raised him. If I can find 15 other OGS alumni to donate to the Widow Watch, we can ensure we can continue funding Gail's pension. More about that later.

Future Memorial and Final Rest
As of now, Gail plans to schedule a memorial service for Dr. Green in the spring at the old campus chapel. Dr. Green will be cremated. I spoke with Dr. Green a month or so ago, and he said he built four tiny wooden coffins and wanted his ashes distributed to four places: a) the OGS campus in TN, b) England, c) Trinidad, and d) Africa. I know Dr. Green has already heard. "Well done, my good and faithful servant."

Personal Reflection
Personally, I am grateful for the time I had with Dr. Green over the past six years of my presidency, as I sought to Heal Old Wounds, Restore the Foundations, and Adapt for the Future. With the board, we ensured Dr. Green was treated with dignity and respect in his final years. My last words to him were, "I promise to protect your legacy." I have no regrets.

May you have a blessed Thanksgiving with your families. Please keep Gail, Brian, Bart, and all of Dr. Green's kin in your prayers this holiday.

Sincerely,

Joshua D. Reichard, PhD, DPhil, EdS, MBA, CCS

At OGS, we affirm peace and nonviolence in all social discourse. Regardless of political persuasions or motivations, all violence must be rejected, and our common human dignity, made in the image of God, must be elevated. We grieve with the Kirk family today for their loss, as we grieve with all those who needlessly fall victim to violence.💔
