One of UM-Dearborn’s original buildings has a new name and purpose. The Daniel Little Building — named after our longest serving chancellor, who led the university from 2000 until 2018 — will now house the College of Education, Health and Human Services and the university’s administrative offices.

From the campus' 1959 opening through the 1980s, the building was known as the Student Activities Building. The building housed the university cafeteria and library until 1979 and 1981, respectively. From 1990 through 2026, it became the Administration Building.

Yesterday, we celebrated the renaming of our Daniel Little Building, home to our College of Education, Health and Human Services and the university administration. It honors UM-Dearborn’s fifth and longest-serving chancellor and his legacy of access, inclusion, mentorship and community engagement.

CEHHS Dean Ann Lampkin-Williams spoke about the impact of that legacy on her own work: “When asked how I would describe Dan’s leadership, I often refer to the 10 characteristics of Authentic Leadership, highlighting number 10, which focuses on being open to other viewpoints. It may seem minor, but that quality always made me feel comfortable with bringing my diverse experiences to the table…If home is where the heart is, always know that your love for UM-Dearborn is alive and well in the building that bears your name.”
