You're invited to the MS HCDE Capstone Showcase 2025–26 at the University of Michigan–Dearborn.
This year's theme is Care — in every sense of the word. Eighteen students across 6 teams have spent two semesters designing solutions that care for what matters most: caring for patients navigating complex healthcare, caring for young adults struggling with financial wellbeing, caring for communities through transparent charitable giving, caring for our attention in a world of digital noise, and caring for the ideas we too easily forget.

Come see how human-centered design turns empathy into action.

🎓 Proud to highlight our students' exceptional participation at the 69th HFES International Annual Meeting!

From October 13-17, twelve students from University of Michigan-Dearborn's Human Factors and Ergonomics as well as Human-Centered Design and Engineering (HCDE) programs in IMSE department attended the 69th Human Factors and Ergonomics Society (HFES) International Annual Meeting in Chicago, IL. Our students delivered an impressive 6 poster presentations and 5 lecture presentations at this prestigious conference.

📋 Our Research Highlights:
Posters:
· Comparative evaluation of exoskeleton performance for bending, squatting and lean forward tasks: A case study of passive trunk exoskeleton
· A Methodological Framework for Evaluating Longitudinal Vehicle Control Features
· Beyond Detection: A Systematic Review of Driver Fatigue Prevention and Mitigation Strategies
· Driving with Empathy: Workshop Report on AI-driven In-vehicle Empathic Agent Design for Automated Vehicles
· Key Factors Influencing the Trust, Acceptance, and Use of Sustainable Automotive Technologies
· Trust in Level 3 Automated Vehicles: A Systematic Literature Review

Lecture Presentations:
· Beyond Overreliance: The Human-AI-System Concordance (HASC) Matrix and the Cognitive Dynamics of AI-Assisted Decision-Making
· Evaluating Multimodal Interfaces for Visually Impaired Users in Autonomous Ridesharing: A Usability Study
· Examining Transparency Needs and Display Features: An Empirical Study of Dynamic Dual-task HAT Simulation with AI Integration
· Exploring Dimensions of Human Likeness in Conversational AI: Implications for Human Identity Threat and Dehumanization
· Rapid Prototyping and Evaluation of Crew Station to Support Manned-Unmanned Teaming

We also showcased our department's research capabilities through a university lab poster titled "Human Factors in University of Michigan-Dearborn," featuring our Human Factors research labs and our state-of-the-art Driving Simulator facility. Program brochures were distributed to highlight our initiatives to the broader conference community.

✨ What our students gained:
· Hands-on experience with cutting-edge research in Human Factors and Ergonomics
· Direct engagement with world-class researchers and industry leaders
