Super fun day yesterday! Members from The University of Michigan Dearborn's Association for Computing Machinery visited Salina Elementary School and taught 2nd grade students about Binary Code and Programming Instructions! Everyone had lots of fun converting their names to 1's and 0's and creating some pseudo code to get from a student's seat to the classroom door. ‪Zaid was pretending to be a robot and fell on the floor when some instructions didn't work (program crash) and the kids loved it.

Today marks the end of ACM UM-Dearborn's 10 week Programming Club at Lowery Middle School. These group of kids went from knowing nothing about programming, to developing working (and fun!) programs. Final projects included a magic eight ball game, a mad libs generator, a pig latin translator, and many other fun and exciting projects. I'm so proud of this group for their commitment, effort, and determination to succeed. This couldn't have been accomplished without the dedicated volunteers from the ACM UM-Dearborn students!

Week 3 of 10 at ACM UM-Dearborn's weekly programming club! Today Lowery students learned all about loops! ACM volunteers taught similarities and differences between for loops, while loops, and do while loops. Instead of having to input lots of repetitive lines of code, these middle schoolers learned how to have their code loop on its own, saving them time and keeping their typing fingers ready for something else! Next week our Functions session begins!

Week 2 of ACM UM-Dearborn's 10 week programming club at Lowery Middle School was perfect today! Our members are volunteering their time to help teach the fundamentals of programming at an early age. In today's session, Lowery students learned how important it is to design, build, and then test their code, highlighting how important each phase is. Though many students were eager to program and jumped right into it without first designing, they immediately realized they needed to take a step back.

ACM UM-Dearborn Members competed against 70,000 people on Thurs Feb 28th. It was a 5 hour programming competition ran by Google, with competitors from all around the world! Here are some photos!

To the world you might have been just a "Professor", but to everyone here at Dearborn, you meant the world.

I'm so very pleased that CIS 139 is now named after Dr. Bruce Elenbogen.

Knowing Dr. Elenbogen, I'm sure his response would have been along the lines of "I am most undeserving", which truly speaks to his selfless and devoted characteristics.

A piece of you will always remain in the lab, in ACM, in the CIS department, with your family, and every life you touched.
