This week, J.F. Ingram State Technical College joined the Alabama Department of Corrections May Wardens Meeting to provide college updates and discuss the continued impact of correctional education across the state.

President David Walters opened the presentation by sharing his vision for the college, emphasizing workforce skills training, industry-recognized credentials, and preparing individuals for successful employment as they approach release.

Through collaboration between ISTC and ADOC facility leadership, we can continue transforming lives, strengthening families, and building a stronger workforce for Alabama.

ISTC was proud to join the Alabama Bureau of Pardons and Paroles in recognizing Rep. Parker Moore for his leadership and support of Alabama’s “Free to Work” legislation.

During the event, ABPP Director Cam Ward presented Moore with a custom plaque handcrafted by ISTC students as a token of appreciation for his work advancing workforce opportunities and reducing barriers to employment for justice-involved individuals.

This legislation helps create stronger pathways to employment, supports workforce development and gives individuals a second chance to become productive, tax-paying citizens.

At ISTC, we remain committed to transforming lives through education, career training and reentry success.

Congratulations to Tre Wells on an incredible accomplishment!

Earlier this month, Tre graduated from with an Associate Degree in Science from Northwest Shoals Community College. During graduation, he was also recognized with the Outstanding Achievement Award in History and celebrated as a member of.

Tre is a proud graduate of J.F. Ingram State Technical College who has continued to excel throughout his reentry journey and pursue higher education beyond Ingram. This fall, he plans to continue his education toward an engineering degree.

We are beyond proud of Tre and all he continues to accomplish. His story is a powerful example of determination, growth, and the impact education can have on changing lives.

Dr. Young, Dean of Instruction at J.F. Ingram State Technical College, served as the guest speaker for the Dismas Charities Community Relations Board meeting on May 21 at RRC-Montgomery.

During his remarks, Dr. Young highlighted the impact of the PROWD (Partners for Reentry Opportunities in Workforce Development) Program and the role J.F. Ingram State Technical College plays in providing workforce education and industry-recognized credentials to justice-involved individuals.

Dr. Young shared the success participants have achieved through certifications including Forklift, OSHA-10, and CDL-A, emphasizing how these credentials can create meaningful employment opportunities and life-changing pathways for individuals preparing to reenter the workforce.

Eight participants in the PROWD program were recognized after completing CDL training through AGAPE Commercial Driver’s License School.

• 7 participants earned their Class-A CDL

The ceremony was held May 14 at Dismas Charities in Montgomery and recognized participants for advancing toward meaningful employment opportunities in Alabama’s workforce.
