For Accountancy Professor Meghann Abell Cefaratti, that ability to spark curiosity, connect with students and make an impact beyond the classroom has earned her another well-deserved title.

Cefaratti — who serves as Deloitte Foundation Professor of Accountancy, director of certifications and licensure, and director of internal audit education partnership for NIU — received a 2026 Outstanding Educator Award from the Illinois CPA Society (ICPAS).

NIU students are encouraged to take advantage of free test preparation through the “Prepare for Illinois’ Future Powered by Kaplan’s All Access License” program.

All current students have access to Kaplan’s industry-leading test prep resources for graduate admissions exams, licensure and credentialing exams, and skills development courses for FREE. This program will equip students to succeed when taking required exams including the GRE, GMAT, MCAT, LSAT and many more.

Students should visit go.kaplan.com/illinois to learn more about this program and sign up. Students will find a list of available courses, information on how to register, and guidance on using these resources based on their goals.

Conflict may be inevitable, but making waves in the field of conflict management is anything but.

In July, NIU Management Professor Amanda Ferguson did just that, proving that sometimes the best way to make an impact is to study what happens when people don’t see eye to eye.

This summer, at the annual meeting of the Academy of Management in Philadelphia, Professor Amanda Ferguson’s paper titled “Things Are Not Always What They Seem: The Origins and Evolution of Intragroup Conflict” was honored as the most influential conflict management paper published between 2018 and 2021. The paper was published in one of the most elite outlets in the field, Administrative Science Quarterly, and has fundamentally changed how we understand conflict in groups.

Last Friday, our advising team held a Week of Welcome College of Business Scavenger Hunt at Barsema Hall for incoming first-year students. Ninety-five students hunted for clues while engaging with faculty and staff in their departments. They mingled, enjoyed frozen custard and won prizes.
