Congratulations to all our our members who competed in the HR case competition at the Illinois SHRM student conference at Illinois State University! Special thank you to the ISU SHRM student chapter for hosting the event and for the phenomenal welcome! It was great seeing the HR community come together!

Kalenna “Kal” Kaske is a Northern Illinois University Alumna who received her degree in Community Leadership & Civic Engagement with an emphasis in Advocacy along with a certificate in Social Entrepreneurship. During her time at NIU, Kal was involved with the Campus Activities Board, Alpha Phi Omega Service Fraternity, Residence Hall Association and worked as a UNIV peer advisor. Kal graduated in 2016 and currently works as an Implementation-Conversion Analyst II at FIS a financial services tech company who she has been employed by since she graduated from college. FIS is a fortune 500 company who empowers the financial world with software, services, consulting and outsourcing solutions focused on retail and institutional banking, payments, asset and wealth management, risk and compliance, trade enablement, transaction processing, and record-keeping.

Hannah Muntz is a sophomore from Minonk, Illinois. She is majoring in Human Resource Management and has recently joined SHRM this year. Hannah is a perfect role model for someone who joined a student organization and sought out leadership opportunities right away. She currently serves as SHRM’s fundraising and Philanthropy assistant! Outside of SHRM and her academics, Hannah is a member of Delta Gamma Sorority and enjoys spending time with her family and friends.

It is with deep sadness to share that NIU student Trevor Wehner, a paying member of our organization, a peer, and friend along side alumnus Clay Parks were killed in a workplace shooting at Henry Pratt Co. in Aurora, IL on February 15th, 2019. Trevor was an amazing individual and a friend to many of our members and was expected to graduate this May with a Degree in Human Resource Management. Clay Parks is an alumnus who has been a strong supporter of NIU, the Management department and the HR program here at NIU. Clay’s passion for HR has been what ignited many of our members passion for HR and has motivated them to be the best Human Resource Professionals that they can be. Please keep the Wehner and Parks families, friends and communities in your hearts and offer them caring thoughts.

In light of the recent events, SHRM and NIU alum, Audrey Southard, will be hosting an informal meeting tomorrow, February 19th, at 3:30-4:30 PM in Barsema Hall Room 233 about HR's role in crisis management. This meeting will be very beneficial and all NIU students are welcome to attend!
