Sigma Chi Fraternity: Gamma Chapter at Ohio Wesleyan University We are the Gamma chapter of Sigma Chi--the fraternity's second oldest and current parent chapter. Our chapter house is located on Ohio Wesleyan's campus.

The Sigma Chi Gamma Chapter at Ohio Wesleyan is the second chapter to be founded bu Sigma Chi in 1855.Currently, we are serving as the parent chapter of the fraternity. The brothers here believe strongly in thier lifelong commitment to charishing friendship, fighting for equal justice, and learning.The member of Gamma Chapter possess their own “temperaments, talents, and convictions” but still co

me together to form one of the strongest chapters at Ohio Wesleyan. Another aspect at the core of Sigma Chi is service. Each year in the city of Delaware, the chapter volunteers in the Delaware All-Horse Parade and maintains litter control on a section of Route 36 through the Adopt-a-Highway program. The largest service effort, however, is Derby Days which is part of a nationwide fundraiser to benefit the Children’s Miracle Network. Each year the fraternity hosts a week of activities and friendly competition among the sororities to raise money for this cause. With a rich history spanning back to before the Civil War, Sigma Chi prides itself on fraternal excellence. Development of upstanding men is the primary goal of the fraternity. The Gamma Chapter is a cohesive and diverse brotherhood that provides an example of how many different kinds of men can share the common goals of “knowledge, wisdom, and character.”

Happy birthday to “Ruler of the Spirit,” Founder Daniel William Cooper, MIAMI (OHIO) 1857, born Sept. 2, 1830.

“Brothers, you wear the cross, that emblem to me above all things the most worthy of reverence and love. See to it that you never do ought to dishonor it. Let your character be as pure and white as the enamel of which it is composed. Let your every word and deed be as rich and golden as the gold that surrounds and ornaments it.” Taken from Cooper’s speech to the 29th Grand Chapter in 1909, and at the dedication of the Founder’s Memorial House at Oxford, Ohio, on June 28, 1913.

Cooper’s gravesite is located at the Allegheny Cemetery in Pittsburgh. All honor to his name.
