🎤 Building confidence. Sharpening skills. Preparing for what’s next.

Today, the Voorhees University Office of Campus Life hosted mock interviews at the Wright/Potts Library, giving students the opportunity to practice their interviewing skills in a supportive, real-world setting.

Throughout the day, students worked on communicating their strengths, answering interview questions with confidence, and preparing themselves for future internships, careers, and professional opportunities.

Experiences like these are another part of preparing our Tigers to step into the room ready, confident, and prepared for the Next Level of Excellence. 🐯💙

The Voorhees University family joins the Benedict College community in mourning the passing of legendary Athletic Director and Coach Willie Washington.

Coach Washington’s life of leadership, service and mentorship left an indelible mark on collegiate athletics, the SIAC and the countless student-athletes, coaches, colleagues and friends whose lives he touched.

Voorhees University 10th President and CEO Dr. Ronnie Hopkins, a former colleague of Coach Washington at Benedict College, reflected on the loss:

“Coach Washington was a gentle giant whose life and leadership positively impacted countless individuals. I am especially grateful for his friendship, partnership, and unwavering support of Voorhees University. His influence extended far beyond athletics; he was a mentor, colleague, community leader, and friend whose legacy will continue to inspire generations.”

Voorhees University Vice President and Director of Athletics Charlene Johnson also remembered Coach Washington as a respected leader and friend:

“Coach Washington was a respected leader, visionary, mentor, and most of all my friend. His tireless dedication to student-athletes and to the advancement of college athletics leaves a legacy that will continue to inspire generations to come. He will be sorely missed.”

We extend our heartfelt condolences and prayers to Coach Washington’s family and loved ones, his church family, fraternity brothers, colleagues throughout the SIAC, and the entire Benedict College family during this difficult time.

Coach Willie Washington will be greatly missed, but the lives he touched and the legacy he built will not be forgotten.

During the 2026 National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) Convention & Career Fair in Atlanta, several Voorhees University Mass Communication students joined the University’s Director of Marketing and Communications for an opportunity to experience the media industry beyond the classroom.

For the students, their first NABJ Convention provided valuable exposure to a professional environment filled with journalists, broadcasters, media organizations, recruiters and other industry professionals.

From networking and making connections to exploring career paths across television, radio, digital media and communications, the experience gave our students another glimpse into where their education, creativity and storytelling abilities can take them.

Opportunities like these are an important part of preparing students for what comes next — connecting classroom learning with real-world experiences and the people already working in the industry.

🐯 Building the next generation of communicators and storytellers.
