Voorhees University students are getting a front-row seat to the future of business.

Two Voorhees University students, Candence Gray and Jaydon Robinson, recently attended the National HBCU Business Deans Roundtable Student Summit at Deloitte University in Dallas, Texas.

The summit brought together HBCU students from across the nation for professional development, corporate networking, career exploration, and direct engagement with representatives from Fortune 500 companies. Students also had the opportunity to interview for paid summer internships while gaining valuable insight into career pathways and workplace expectations.

This opportunity was made possible through the leadership of Dr. Katherine Whitaker, Dean of the School of Business at Voorhees University and a member of the National HBCU Business Deans Roundtable Board.

Their participation reflects Voorhees University’s continued commitment to experiential learning, career readiness, and preparing students to compete and lead in today’s global business environment.

Congratulations to Candence and Jaydon for representing Voorhees University with excellence.

Several outstanding Tigers recently represented Voorhees University at the NASAP Student Leadership Institute 2026, held May 27–June 1 at Claflin University in Orangeburg, South Carolina. The six-day institute brought together student leaders from nearly 50 HBCUs across the nation for leadership development, networking, strategic planning, and conversations centered on servant leadership, student advocacy, campus engagement, and personal growth.

Representing Voorhees University were:

Jaydon Robinson – Student Government Association President-Elect
Jada Stackhouse – 79th Miss Voorhees University-Elect
Toreyon Anderson – Mister Junior-Elect
Ta'Nia Hickson – Miss Junior-Elect

These student leaders return to campus with fresh ideas, strengthened leadership skills, and a renewed commitment to advancing the student experience during the 2026–2027 academic year.

Voorhees University is proud to celebrate their growth, leadership, and commitment to representing the institution with distinction.

Today, Voorhees University celebrates fathers, father figures, mentors, and the men who continue to show up with love, leadership, wisdom, sacrifice, and presence.

Through the voices of our alumni, we are reminded that fatherhood is more than a title. It is responsibility. It is guidance. It is planting seeds, building character, and being present in ways that last a lifetime.

To every father and father figure making a difference in the lives of others we see you, we thank you, and we celebrate you.

Happy Father’s Day from Voorhees University.

Today, Dr. William H. “Bill” Whitaker Jr. was laid to rest at Grandview Memorial Park Cemetery in Clinton, North Carolina, where his remains were interred in the family mausoleum alongside his beloved parents.

A distinguished educator, scholar, mentor, and servant leader, Dr. Whitaker dedicated his life to advancing higher education and empowering students to achieve excellence. His service to Voorhees University as a member of the Board of Directors of the Charter Institute of Learning and his unwavering support of our institution will remain a lasting part of his legacy.

We give thanks for a life well lived and for the countless lives he touched through his leadership, wisdom, friendship, and faith.

"Well done, good and faithful servant."

Today, we join the nation in commemorating Juneteenth a day that marks the triumph of freedom, resilience, and hope.

As we honor the generations who endured unimaginable hardship and those who fought tirelessly for liberty and justice, we are reminded that the pursuit of freedom is inseparable from the pursuit of education, opportunity, and human dignity.

At Voorhees University, founded upon the vision and courage of Elizabeth Evelyn Wright, we celebrate the enduring legacy of those who transformed adversity into achievement and opened doors for future generations. Their journey inspires us to continue building a more just, equitable, and compassionate society.

May this Juneteenth serve not only as a remembrance of the past, but also as a call to action challenging each of us to advance understanding, embrace unity, and create opportunities that empower others to reach their fullest potential.

Happy Juneteenth.

10th President and CEO, Voorhees University

Father’s Day is still a few days away, but at Voorhees University, we believe in giving fathers and father figures their flowers now. We are taking a moment to recognize the men whose guidance, wisdom, encouragement, and example leave a lasting impact on generations.

Alumnus Jamal Joseph reflects on a lesson from a father figure that continues to inspire and guide him.

As we prepare to recognize Juneteenth this Friday, Voorhees University reflects on the meaning of freedom, sacrifice, opportunity, and the responsibility to keep moving forward.Juneteenth is more than a moment in history it is a reminder of freedom, sacrifice, opportunity, and responsibility.

Voorhees University honors the strength of those who came before us and the continued work of building a future rooted in equality, purpose, and progress.

As VC Alum Trevor Gray reminds us: freedom means opportunity, access, pride, and the right to make change.
