🚨 Disaster strikes. The clock is ticking. What's your next move?

UNT students are putting their emergency management skills to the test today during the 2026 Resiliency Games!

Hosted by the Association of Continuity Professionals – North Texas Chapter, this nationwide competition brings together university students and working professionals to tackle a simulated disaster, make critical decisions and develop strategies to navigate a crisis.

Our Emergency Management & Disaster Science students are joining forces with teams from Saint John's University, the University of Central Florida, Arkansas Tech, Kean University and Boston University to see how collaboration, quick thinking and preparation can make all the difference when disaster strikes.

📍 The action is unfolding right here on campus in UNT's Emergency Operations Center!

Because when it comes to disaster preparedness, the best time to learn how to respond is before the real emergency happens.

North Texas needs more mental health professionals. UNT is helping build the next generation to meet that need. 🧠 💚

Through the North Texas Behavioral Health Careers Opportunity Program (HCOP), students as young as high school are gaining hands-on research experience, professional training and mentorship — while discovering the many paths a career in behavioral health can take.

Since 2024, 131 students have participated, with more than $413,500 awarded in stipends and research support.

And the impact is just beginning.

📅 Applications for the 2027 HCOP Academy open Oct. 1.

💚 Connection. Conversation. Community.

Living with aphasia can change the way someone communicates — but it doesn’t have to mean facing recovery alone.

The UNT Aphasia Support Group, hosted by Audiology & Speech-Language Pathology, brings together people with aphasia and their loved ones and caregivers for education, encouragement and honest conversation about recovery.

And this isn’t your typical support group setting. Each month, the group meets at a local restaurant in a relaxed, welcoming environment where participants can share experiences, learn from one another and simply enjoy being together.

Because recovery is about more than finding the words. It’s about finding connection, confidence and a community that understands. 💚

What happens in the brain when we get what we want — or when we don’t?

Hear from one of the world’s leading researchers on reward, dopamine and decision-making when Dr. Wolfram Schultz, professor of neuroscience at the University of Cambridge, joins UNT’s Barrett Initiative for two FREE virtual lectures.

Schultz’s groundbreaking research helped reveal how dopamine neurons signal the difference between the rewards we expect and the rewards we actually receive — discoveries that transformed our understanding of learning, behavior and decision-making.

Oct. 16 at 4 p.m. - From Reward Functions to the Dopamine Reward Signal
Explore how rewards influence behavior and how those functions are reflected in the brain’s dopamine system.

Oct. 23 at 4 p.m. -🧠 Neuroeconomics of Decision Making
Discover what happens when neuroscience meets economics — and how the brain evaluates rewards, risk and value when making choices.

Whether you study behavior analysis, psychology, neuroscience, economics — or you’re simply fascinated by why we do what we do — this is a rare opportunity to learn from a scientist whose work helped change the way we understand it.
