Meet Charleen Ramirez-Mares! A Culinary Arts alum, who is now the owner of La Brewjula Cafe, LLC ! 💚⭐

We asked Charleen a few questions about her experience at Emily Griffith Technical College. Read more about Charleen’s story below⬇

Q: “Was there a specific moment in your training—a lesson, a project, or a conversation—where you realized, 'I can actually do this as a career’?”
A: “I loved when we started to open the cafe in the evenings. Planning, prepping and then actually cooking was amazing. I loved the energy of the kitchen; I thrive in chaos.”

Q: “What is one thing you’re doing in your job today that would have felt impossible to you several years ago?’
A: “I never imagined myself preparing food for large groups of people, now I can say that I have worked events for 300 people. I have always loved cooking, but never felt confident, having Chef Marcus believe in me was transformational.”

Q: “If you could go back to your first day of class at Emily Griffith and give yourself one piece of advice, what would it be?”
A: “Trust your instincts.”

Q: “"Because of Emily Griffith, I am now able to ______.”
A: “cater events and run my cafe without doubting my ability to do it.”

Feminine hygiene products
Diaper bank (when available)
Emergency food items
Quiet study spaces for individuals or groups

Meet Felix Herzog, an Independent Electrical Contractors-Rocky Mountain 4 year Electrical Apprentice alum!💚🤝 We asked Felix a few questions about his experience with our apprenticeship program. Read more about Felix’s story below⬇

Q: “What is one thing you’re doing in your job today that would have felt impossible to you several years ago?”
A: “Training my apprentices to become future Journeymen. The growth we experience over 10 years, from learning to read prints, then building prints, double check math calculations and laser diagrams to then teaching it to the next generations in just 10 years makes this career very fulfilling.”

Q: “If you could go back to your first day of class at Emily Griffith and give yourself one piece of advice, what would it be?”
A: “Balancing a 40 hour work week and night classes and labs is absolutely miserable; it’s hard on you, your family, and your coworkers. It's worth it; the best way through is jointly working through it with your classmates and your journeyman. They understand what you are dealing with and they are there to help you when you get stuck. Never give up!”

A: “Provide for my family.”

Q: “What were you doing before you attended Emily Griffith Technical College? How does your typical day now compare to a typical day before you completed your program?”
A: “Before attending Emily Griffith Technical College, I was teaching middle school. After completing my certification, I have become the sous chef at the top kidney dialysis research facility in the world.”

Q: “Was there a specific moment in your training—a lesson, a project, or a conversation—where you realized, 'I can actually do this as a career’?”
A: “decided that I wanted to pursue my career the moment I was told I would never become anything of value.”

Q: “If you could go back to your first day of class at Emily Griffith and give yourself one piece of advice, what would it be?”
A: “Don't let anyone tell you that you don't belong in this industry.”
