🎉 Congratulations to Dr. Philip Butler!

Dr. Butler was recently awarded a large grant for a two‑year project that will convene a faculty cohort at Iliff School of Theology to develop, test, and refine a shared lexicon that connects artificial intelligence (AI) to theological education, pedagogy, and vocation.

This two‑year project will convene a faculty cohort at Iliff School of Theology to develop, test, and refine a shared lexicon that connects artificial intelligence (AI) to theological education, pedagogy, and vocation. The cohort will experiment with AI‑related practices in their classrooms, then return to sustained conversation to name and define key concepts—such as algorithmic authority, digital discernment, mediated presence, and AI as working companion—that can guide Iliff’s teaching with and about AI. The result will be both a deeper common framework for faculty along with concrete classroom practices that help students imagine AI‑integrated futures, what it means to work alongside AI responsibly, and the intentional reconceiving of their relationality to digital modalities more broadly.

Searching for a spark of imagination? Join the "Releasing the Imagination" workshop at the Wabash Center, where participants will tap into their creativity and expand their vision for teaching drawing in the spirit of art.

This workshop, created by Iliff's Professor of Practical Theology and Religious Education and Dr. Willie James Jennings from Yale Divinity School, is intended for faculty members with a minimum of 10 years of full-time higher education teaching experience.

Where have you placed your imagination?

After years of teaching, it can be easy to lose sight of the creative possibilities that first drew us to the classroom. This funded workshop, designed by Willie James Jennings (Yale Divinity School) and Katherine Turpin (Iliff School of Theology), invites mid- to late-career faculty in religion, theology, and religious studies to reconnect with imagination, experimentation, and artistic play.

Through collaborative experimentation and courageous reflection, participants will explore new possibilities for their teaching—drawing on the raw materials of their own lives, institutions, scholarly expertise, and creative instincts.

This is not a workshop for artistic experts. It is for teachers willing to take risks, try something new, and allow imagination to reinvigorate their teaching lives.

If you are beyond the tenure process, have at least 10 years of full-time teaching experience, and are longing for renewal and new possibilities in your classroom, this may be the space for you.

Please join Iliff as we celebrate the life of Dr. Rachel E. Harding , who recently passed away.

Rachel has been a friend and colleague who supported numerous Iliff programs. She served as an Iliff adjunct professor, a guest speaker, and a presenter at a variety of Iliff events. Each year, as we celebrated her parents with lectures, panels, and musical performances, Rachel was present to share her memories of them.

Please join us August 29 at 11 AM as we start the day with brunch, and August 30 at 9:30AM for a yoga practice, led by Rachel's cousin.
