Alums showed up in force for the TBirds last home match, including two who were part of the very first team that brought tennis back to Highline after a 20 year absence! So many others sent good luck wishes and vibes 💚. This team truly has always been about the outstanding young women who took a chance choosing a little team that was committed to doing big things.

Phyla Training is back! Join MaST's Lead Aquarist Emily Bjornsgard for 5 weeks of virtual programming, learning about the wide array of marine life found in the northeast Pacific and Salish Sea. Each of the five sessions will be held on Wednesday evenings, beginning April 30th at 5:30pm. Registration is required, and costs $5 (for the full five weeks).

Why is it called "Phyla Training"? All life on Earth is classified within a system of categories, and the phylum level (plural phyla) is how we will be dividing marine life of the northeast Pacific in this program. This program began as a MaST Center Aquarium volunteer program, and this year has been expanded to include the public. Previously, we sold out our virtual spots, so we have decided to run it again; just in time for the daylight low tides to return to the Pacific Northwest, when many people decide to start visiting our local marine life.

This program will cover organisms found both in the Salish Sea and the greater northeast Pacific (southern Alaska, British Columbia, Washington and Oregon coasts), but as a virtual program, there is no location restriction for participants. If you are looking to learn about this area and the amazing marine life that lives here, join us!

For more information, visit: mast.highline.edu/events/ or email [email protected].

The Zoom invitation for the meetings will be sent out to registered participants the week before the first meeting, and each session will be recorded.
