Aisha Alamri is thankful to the ASRT for her awarded scholarship.

I’m honored to have received the 2025 Elekta Radiation Therapy Scholarship through the ASRT Foundation.
Thank you to the ASRT Foundation and the generous donors for supporting my education and helping me move one step closer to my goals. This scholarship is a reminder that hard work and dedication truly pay off.
I’m looking forward to continuing my journey in radiation therapy and making a difference in patients’ lives.

National Radiation Therapy Week- is November 3-9, 2024. Each year, our program shines a spotlight on the essential role that our clinical preceptors have on our student's success as mentors and instructors.

Our junior and senior class picks those individuals who go over and beyond to encourage, mentor, and instruct. This year the students picked :

Sue Karam MHP, Madison Heights, Mi
Terry Polewski MHP, Madison Heights, Mi
Ricky Hall Henry Ford, Detroit, Mi
Sherry Jones-Mercy Health, Perrysberg, Ohio

Program Director, Jeannetta Greer, ordered inscribed trophies for each that says "Above and Beyond" and includes each recipient name.

Our senior student, Christina Belanger, did not mention anything to us about her recent community service, and did not ask for any recognition, she just wanted to do what she thought would be generous and kind for kids.

Christina is known for her long and silky dark locks. She recently cut off 13 inches of her beautiful hair and donated it to a very worthy cause called, Wigs for Kids.

Wigs for Kids is an organization that helps children with cancer try to keep their
self-esteem by helping them look like their friends.

Christina who has two little kids of her own, donated her hair in order to make a difference in the lives of children who are going through a very difficult time. It is a struggle that many adults with cancer would have a hard time dealing with.

Attached is the before and after of Christina.

Such a beautiful story regarding such a beautiful student.

We have a winner!!! Taha applied and won a scholarship through the WSU Greenwald Impact Foundation Scholarship program. He was so thrilled and I know this will take some financial burden off of him this semester!
Taha is a hard worker and with his growing family I know that the aid will be greatly appreciated.
Congratulations Taha!!!

Skin cancer is the number 1 prevalent cancer in the United States. Over 100,000 cases are diagnosed a year. Basal Cell Carcinoma and Squamous Cell Carcinoma are two types of non- melanoma skin cancers. In the past, both were routinely treated with a procedure called Mohs surgery – where the surgeon removes a layer of skin and then examines the specimen under a microscope. The surgeon may need to remove several layers of skin before a clear margin is produced. This procedure is very effective in treating the skin cancer, but it also can leave an unsightly scar. This may be aesthetically undesirable if the lesion is on the patient's face.

Currently, a new modality has been promoted for the treatment of non-melanoma skin cancer. This involves a radiation treatment using superficial x-rays to treat the lesion. This procedure is recommended often times over Mohs surgery for the better cosmetic result – no scar.

We recently took our senior students to Pinnacle Dermatology in Birmingham, MI where they demonstrated to our students the technique used, equipment and even spoke of employment opportunities.

The students were exposed to new technology and opportunities in the field of radiation therapy technology – and were excited about the latest and greatest advancements in our field.
