The Department of Urban Studies & Planning offers a range of degree programs and courses that are at the forefront of WSU’s Urban Mission. The undergraduate degree in Urban Studies places an emphasis on building a firm theoretical and practical understanding of cities and communities across the globe. The Master of Urban Planning degree, recently rated as one of the leading programs in the nation,

offers a challenging curriculum focusing on the condition, problems and opportunities in urban America. Each of the concentrations in this degree program: Housing and Community Development, Urban Economic Development and Managing Metropolitan Growth reflect the research expertise of faculty in the Department. The curriculum offers all students access to a state-of-the-art Geographical Information Systems lab, provides opportunities to work with faculty on current research and encourages applied learning through internships offered by agencies throughout the Detroit metropolitan area.
