Wayne State Students, please read the following for an RA/tutoring positions this summer:

Hi Everyone!

The Upward Bound program at Wayne State University is an academic support and college preparation program for first-generation and/or low-income high school students. The program targets students residing in and attending Detroit schools. During the summer, we host a 6-week instructional, residential program for (rising 8th) 9-12th-grade students. For five weeks, five days a week, students live on campus taking classes in the following core subjects: math, science, English, and foreign language. The program helps students make the transition from high school to college by getting them acquainted with a college setting and the rigor of courses.

WSU Upward Bound program is looking for (rising) juniors and seniors in college interested in the positions of Residential Advisor (RA) or Tutor. This year, the program will run from July 1st to August 3rd. Orientation/training will take place on multiple dates at the end of June.

Applicants need to be self-motivated and capable of handling the duties of the position. They should have excellent communication, time management, and organization skills. They need to be willing to adhere to and enforce the program's policies to avoid negative influence of students' attitudes or actions, ensure student safety and encourage student participation in all program activities.

Also, applicants need to be passionate about assisting youth to prepare for college and gaining professional experience from this position. They should be invested in helping youth improve their academic performance as well as developing healthy lifestyle habits. College students interested in working with youth, outreach, social work, college access, community organizing, counseling, teaching, etc. will be able to gain insight into those fields by participating in the program.

If you’re interested in the position, please contact Marc Smith, Upward Bound Director, at [email protected] or 313-577-7777. If you want to apply for the position, email your Resume and Letter of Interest. All positions will be filled by the end of May.

Please pass along the information.

Thanks,
Angelizmar Rodriguez
