Promoting mathematics literacy across campus
Mathematics Literacy Services (MLS) at Wayne State University is an office of the Academic Success Center. MLS strives to reduce math anxiety by assisting students with all aspects of mathematics, from coping with math anxiety to approaching mathematics to developing study habits to understanding mathematical concepts. My philosophy is based upon the Five Strands of Mathematics Proficiency (National Research Council, 2001), growth mindset (Dweck, 2008; Boaler, 2015), and Saundra McGuire’s strategies on teaching students how to learn (2015).
