At just 6 years old, Cayden Brown sat in a courtroom feeling unheard. Today, he’s helping children around the world find their voice. 📖✨

Brown, who just recently finished his freshman year at Detroit Mercy, is an award-winning activist, public speaker, and CEO of The Trespass Project, a global nonprofit that helps youth access and navigate the legal system.

A Criminal Justice major, Brown recently published "The Kid in the Courtroom," a children’s picture book inspired by his own experience navigating the legal system as a child.

Honor, remember, and reflect.

The University pauses to honor the brave individuals who gave everything in service to our country.

The Memorial clock tower on the McNichols Campus was dedicated to the 12 alumni and students of the University who gave their lives during World War I.

Mack Powell had a simple, yet powerful mantra throughout his four years at Detroit Mercy Dental: "I'm living the dream."

Powell realized and fulfilled his childhood dream of becoming a dentist when he graduated from University of Detroit Mercy School of Dentistry on May 8.

Now, he begins his dentistry career in the U.S. Navy, after being part of the Health Professions Scholarship Program, which helped offset the cost of his education.

As a transfer student, Detroit Mercy’s Computer Science program exceeded Sara Shannan’s expectations academically.

But as a mother of young children, it was the support from faculty and staff that left the biggest impact.

“It was difficult trying to balance everything, but the professors were always understanding,” she said. “They were my community that I really needed, and I appreciate them for that.”

When Shreen Marini graduated on May 9, she completed a tenacious journey driven by self-reflection and a firm belief in the Jesuit value cura personalis (care for the whole person).

Marini chose Detroit Mercy for her graduate education after years of seeing the University’s students in action while working as a nurse in the hospital. She noticed how well-prepared, compassionate and confident they were in clinical settings.

“They were fantastic. They stood out,” she said. “And I really connected with Detroit Mercy’s mission and its dedication to inclusion, service and caring for the whole person.”
