Building Construction Technology students Michael Tiernan, Alex Sanchez, Emily Fuller, and Sam Brown used miter and coping saws to make necessary cuts while learning how to cope joints, a skill used when installing baseboards, crown molding, and chair rails. Coping is used to shape the end of one board to fit the profile of the mating board when applying decorative trim. These students are all enrolled at our main campus in Dickson. Building Construction Technology is also offered at our Clarksville campus. For more information or to schedule a tour, visit us at TCATDickson.edu or call 615-441-6220.

Austin Manning, an Industrial Electrical Maintenance/Mechatronics student in Dickson, made this non-operative trainer fully functional again using the skills he acquired at TCAT Dickson. Manning is holding the old automation controller he removed and replaced with a new one. He also completely rewired the inputs and outputs. Manning graduated from the program this week but helped his fellow students still working in the program by leaving them the operational trainer that simulates an assembly line process. The trainer allows black and metallic blocks to be dropped onto a conveyor belt where sensors check for orientation of the part, depth of the part (to determine if it is right side up) and whether the block is metallic or not. Manning is already working in his field and knows the skills he acquired have helped advance his career. Industrial Electrical Maintenance/Mechatronics is also offered at our Clarksville campus. For more information on our Industrial Electrical Maintenance/Mechatronics program visit us at TCATDickson.edu or call 615-441-6220.

We are excited to have two of our Dickson students, Reuben Brown (green shirt) and Elijah Buckner (blue shirt), competing as a team in the SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference in Atlanta, Georgia, June 1 – 5. The pair will compete in Robotics – Urban Search and Rescue (USAR). Brown is an Industrial Electrical Maintenance / Mechatronics student and Buckner is a student in the Mechatronics Multicraft Tech program. They have worked together to design their robot and arm mechanism prior to the event and will navigate skills tests controlling the robot with a 6-channel remote control and a camera system. This duo won gold medals at the state level earlier this year in Chattanooga allowing them to advance to the National competition. We couldn’t be prouder of these students and wish them all the best in the contest this week.
