OSFM Program Information for School Directors,

We have received some recent comments and concerns about the upcoming changes to the NC Firefighter certification program regarding the NFPA 1010, 2025 edition Consolidated Standard.


Work is actively underway to update the program to be compliant with the NFPA 1010, 2025 edition Consolidated Standard.

Here is a summary of the anticipated timeline for release:

• January 1, 2027 – June 30, 2027, instructor upgrades. These will be in-person upgrades. All qualified instructors will be required to attend the upgrade to maintain qualification.
• July 1, 2027, the NFPA 1010, 2025 edition firefighter program launches and available to deliver.
o Current firefighter program (NFPA 1001, 2019 edition) will continue to be available through December 31, 2027.
o January 1, 2028, current NFPA 1001, 2019 edition program will end.
• A crossover matrix will be mapped out to help participants transition from an incomplete NFPA 1001, 2019 edition standard to the new NFPA 1010, 2025 edition program.

For the past six years, Tyler has been part of both Greensboro FD's Hazmat Team and North Carolina’s Regional Response Team 5, responding to incidents such as anhydrous ammonia leaks, drug labs, and large-scale ammonium nitrate fires.
