South Georgia State College (SGSC) and the University of North Georgia (UNG) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) which will provide students at SGSC the opportunity to obtain a dual certification degree in elementary education and special education. Students attending SGSC will be able to complete the four-year Early Childhood/Special Education program (P-5) and qualify for teacher cer

tification through the Georgia Professional Standards Commission (GaPSC). Students graduating from this program will receive a Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood/Special Education degree from SGSC. The Bachelor of Science with a major in elementary and special education (ELESPED) program at South Georgia State College offers a dual major of 127 hours in elementary and special education, preparing students to work in both fields from pre-kindergarten through fifth grade. Not only are our teacher candidates in the ELESPED program at SGSC well-prepared for the classroom due to their intensive field experiences and internships, but our ELESPED candidates work with faculty who are well versed in current pedagogical practices.
