Join us THIS FRIDAY, July 10, from 5 PM to 7 PM to celebrate the opening of the "Play in Arkansas" exhibit at UA Little Rock Downtown! Come and go as you can, and bring your friends and family to explore the history of play and leisure.

This event is free and open to the public. "Play in Arkansas" will be on display from July 10 through December 15, 2026. Email [email protected] to schedule a group or individual visit.

We are so excited to welcome our summer intern, Charlie Smith, to UA Little Rock Downtown! Charlie is entering his second year as a graduate student in the M.A. in Public History program at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. In his free time, Charlie enjoys playing tug of war with his dog, Ugg.

We recently partnered with our friends at UA Little Rock Center for Arkansas History and Culture and CALS Roberts Library to host attendees of the Arkansas Council for the Social Studies Summer 2026 conference at William J. Clinton Presidential Library. After a tour of the "Struggle in the South" mural and Library Square, we shared information on Arkansas history resources that are available for social studies educators.

UA Little Rock Downtown is collecting memories of childhood play for our upcoming exhibit, "Play in Arkansas," and we need your help to fill our wall of memories!

The exhibit explores how play and leisure activities shape who we are and what the history of play can add to our understanding of the past and the present. All current adult (18+ years old) residents of Arkansas are eligible to contribute memories, even if you didn't grow up in Arkansas.

This week, UA Little Rock Upward Bound hosted their summer orientation at UA Little Rock Downtown. At the end of their session, students engaged in thoughtful discussion as they explored the history of Joe Jones, Commonwealth College, and the mural "The Struggle in the South."

Looking for a place to express your creativity this summer? Join Central Arkansas Library System's Shannon Holmes on Tuesdays from 2-4 PM for Colorful Creative Corner at UA Little Rock Downtown.

This free weekly summer program will run from Tuesday, June 2, through Tuesday, July 21. All ages are welcome to color, collage, and create whatever you want! All supplies will be provided.

We are thrilled to welcome our summer intern, Stacey Griggs Matchett, to UA Little Rock Downtown. Stacey started the M.A. in Public History program at University of Arkansas at Little Rock in the fall of 1997. After taking a break to raise a family, she's back to finish the program! In her free time, Stacey enjoys exploring thrift stores for paintings to add to her collection and spending time with her family and her dogs.

Attention UA Little Rock faculty and staff!
UA Little Rock Downtown will host the Spring 2026 Writing Retreat from Tuesday, May 26 through Thursday, May 28, 9 AM to 4 PM each day.

This end-of-semester writing retreat is a great chance to dedicate some time to your writing/research projects before summer. Can’t make it to all three days? No problem. Join us at 333 President Clinton Avenue for as long as you can on any day of the retreat. Snacks will be provided. All UA Little Rock employees are welcome.

Thank you to everyone who attended "Arkansas Immigrant Stories" yesterday. It was a wonderful evening of meaningful discussion about the incredible histories of immigration to Arkansas. A special thanks to our speakers for sharing their community-based projects to document, preserve, and share those important histories.
