This week's library phrase is Dewey Decimal System. The Dewey Decimal System is a classification method of cataloging, labeling, and shelving books by subject so that books of similar subjects are shelved near each other. At Loras, we also add a letter/number combination that corresponds to the author’s last name after the Dewey number so that each call number is unique.

Looking for some summer reading? Check out Lupe Ruiz-Flores’ novel, The Pecan Sheller, which follows 13-year old Petra in 1930s Antonio, Texas. Petra wants to go to college to become a writer, but she’s had to drop out of college to support her family by working at the pecan shelling factory. As conditions at the factory worsen, Petra and her coworkers go on strike, risking everything they have for the hope of a better future.
