A respected educator from Ardmore, Kate Galt Zaneis (1926), became the president of Southeastern in 1935. During her tenure, she increased enrollment by 30% and even brought Eleanor Roosevelt to campus to speak. She was inducted into the Oklahoma Higher Education Hall of Fame in 2022, and her portrait is displayed in the Oklahoma Historical Society.

This Memorial Day, Southeastern honors and remembers the brave heroes who served our country with courage and dedication. 🇺🇸

General Ira C. Eaker's life was defined by flight. After his time at Southeastern, he set endurance records in a 150-hour-long flight and made the first all-instrument transcontinental flight.

During World War II, he organized the 8th Air Force Bomber Command, the backbone of U.S. airpower in the European theater, and convinced a skeptical Winston Churchill of the value of daylight bombing raids over Europe, a critical strategy in the conflict.

He was instrumental in the creation of the Air Force as a separate branch of the military and has been awarded numerous decorations and honors since.

Eaker Field, the airport in Durant that now houses our Aviation program, was named in his honor.
