Hey current and former Duke MAT students--you are invited to attend the upcoming Duke TeachHouse Virtual UnConference happening Thursday, April 28th, 2022!

The UnConference is a new model that amplifies teachers’ power, autonomy, and voice by allowing teachers to determine discussion topics, facilitate conversations, and document actions to solve problems. This FREE and fully-virtual event provides space for authentic conversations and community building for teachers working at different schools and in different content areas/grade levels.

Duke TeachHouse is excited to invite you to the Third Annual Duke TeachHouse Virtual UnConference: Empowering Teacher Voice on Thursday, April 28th from 5:30 - 8:00 PM!

The UnConference is a new model that amplifies teachers’ power, autonomy, and voice by allowing teachers to determine discussion topics, facilitate conversations, and document actions to solve problems. This FREE and fully-virtual event provides space for authentic conversations and community building for teachers working at different schools and in different content areas/grade levels.

In addition to access to all conference sessions, recordings, and materials, UnConference participants will receive:

--A certificate of attendance
--A Duke TeachHouse “Red for Ed” t-shirt
--A free copy of the conference book selection

Interested in taking on a leadership role and becoming a session facilitator? That’s fantastic! Please indicate your interest in the form linked above and we will reach out to you in the next few weeks. Note that you do NOT need to be an expert on a topic to facilitate–only passionate about the session topic and conversation you are leading. All session facilitators will moderate a 45-minute breakout session and receive an honorarium of $50 for their contributions.

The last year has been pretty challenging for teachers everywhere. MAT graduates reflect on the difficulties of the last few months and the ways in which the Duke MAT Program has helped them to find the resilience and flexibility to continue to support their students

“There’s some cool stuff you can do online, but you can’t hug a kid, you can’t high five a kid,” Friedlander said. “It’s just not the same. But thinking about my Duke MAT time, the largest component I took away is being reflective practitioner. I’ve taken that into the present day, and a large portion of it has been on the social-emotional needs of my students. I’ve had to really think about what they need to know, about what would be helpful to navigate this time and how to give them hope.”

You are invited to an information session on > about Duke TeachHouse, a first-of-its-kind living and learning community of early-career teachers committed to making positive change in education.

The 2-year fellowship is open to graduates and current students of Duke’s three Teacher Preparation Programs. In our information session, you will:

--Meet current and former TeachHouse fellows
--Hear their favorite TeachHouse stories
--Learn about the many opportunities for professional development and travel as a TeachHouse fellow
--Ask questions about the fellowship experience
--Receive more information about resources and application materials
