**Sneak Peek!**
We don't have details yet but we want to get the word out that Dr. Cristina Forbes, an oceanographer with the USGS Office of Search and Rescue, will be the speaker at next Friday's Ocean Seminar. Watch this space for all the details. Meanwhile, for a story featuring some of the technology that Dr. Forbes will speak about, tune into Michael Lewis’ “Against the Rules” podcast that includes the story behind the development of the USCG SAROPS software that saved the life of someone miles off the coast of California. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pp5bSz6y-5I&list=PLhVrD_NHW_xblNuffQ4QCMyMRwh4j_Xdb&index=50

Congratulations Judith!

🌟 Meet Judith Elliot-Adjoh, Recipient of the 2026 Paros-Digiquartz Scholarship! 🌟

Judith Elliot-Adjoh is a Master of Science student in Ocean Engineering at the University of New Hampshire and a Graduate Research Assistant at the Center for Coastal and Ocean Mapping / Joint Hydrographic Center, a UNH and NOAA partnership. Her research develops methods to classify seafloor sediments from calibrated echosounder data, validatedagainst physical sediment grab samples, and compared with multibeam backscatter. She holds a First-Class Honours degree in Surveying and Geoinformatics from the University of Lagos and is pursuing the IHO Category A Certificate in Hydrography. She aims to build a career in hydrographic surveying and ocean mapping research, and to widen access to the field for students from underrepresented backgrounds.
