Dedication! ASV Team Lead Val Schmidt snapped this amazing photo of night work on the DriX-8. Val says they've been conducting a major overhaul of the ASV. After 5 years of service with little time between Western Pacific Field deployments, DriX-8 was shipped home and they are attempting to address long-outstanding repairs and several system upgrades that will hopefully improve the reliability and operational capability of the system. The team has been preparing for this effort for the past six months and, for the last two and a half weeks, they've had on-site support from Exail. Last night they brought DriX-8 outside for the first time to run the engine, talk with the satellites, and begin a long list of systems checks to ensure everything is fully operational before they take DriX-8 down to the pier.

CCOM alum Commander John Kidd talks about NOAA's Navigation Response Teams as the guest on the latest NOAA Ocean Podcast.

In the latest NOAA Ocean Podcast, we interview Commander John Kidd, who led NOAA’s Navigation Response Teams for the past three years. Strategically located around the country, our Navigation Response Teams remain on call to respond to emergencies, speeding the resumption of shipping after storms, and protecting life and property from underwater dangers to navigation.

Hear how these teams get to disaster zones, the coordination and science behind reopening a port after a hurricane, and more here: https://oceanservice.noaa.gov/podcast/may26/nop83-navigation-response-team.html
