Rubenstein Student-Athlete Civic Engagement Program ACE provides immersive international service experiences for Duke University student-athletes.

ACE Overview

Duke University and Stanford University launched the Rubenstein-Bing Student-Athlete Civic Engagement (ACE) Program in Spring 2015 to provide student-athletes with opportunities for immersive civic engagement experiences. Recognizing the challenge for student-athletes to fully participate in many of the offered campus programs, Duke and Stanford met this need together for eight year

s by offering student-athletes greater access to civic engagement and service opportunities through ACE. After summer 2023, Stanford paused their involvement in the program. ACE currently runs as a Duke-only program for student-athletes under the name of the Rubenstein Student-Athlete Civic Engagement Program. ACE provides one-time funding for accepted Duke ACE student-athletes to participate in immersive summer service experiences with an international community partner. Each summer, Duke ACE student-athletes participate in international group programs with diverse service themes including health outreach, education, environmental sustainability and conservation, coaching, and more.

It’s the final week of ! See what the team has been up to as they complete their last days of the program:

1-5: Hiked through the Kirstenboch Gardens and took the tram up to the top of Table Mountain for a beautiful view of Cape Town.

6-8: Continued supporting with meal packing and food distribution in preparation for the Mandela Day Celebration tomorrow on July 18!

9-16: Spent their final project days working with the children they’ve supported at and and said their goodbyes.

17: Enjoyed a night of post-project fun with karaoke at Mojo Market!
