Happy HVAC Tech Day!

"I discovered I was a hands-on learner. I've never been someone who learns best from books. I learn by doing."

For NEIT Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning Technology (HVAC) alum Mike Corvese, that realization changed everything. At New England Tech, he found an environment where he could learn in the classroom and immediately apply those skills through hands-on training and industry-focused lab experiences.

More than 20 years later, Mike has built a successful career in HVAC and now mentors others entering the field—a reminder that great careers are built on strong foundations and a willingness to keep learning.

Today, we celebrate Mike and all of the HVAC professionals whose work keeps our communities comfortable and running smoothly.

For more than 30 years, Lisa Reed has been preparing future surgical technologists as Professor and Department Chair of NEIT’s Surgical Technology program.

Lisa was hired in 1994 to build the associate degree program from the ground up. With a background in surgical services leadership and as a licensed health educator, Reed developed a hands-on, real-world curriculum that aligns with NEIT’s mission to deliver career-focused, experiential learning — and prepares students for the demands of today’s operating rooms.

"Being part of an institution that values excellence, accountability, and hands-on education is both professionally fulfilling and personally rewarding," Reed says. "Through curriculum development, amazing faculty and staff, clinical collaboration, and adherence to national accreditation standards, I can directly influence the quality of patient care."

One injury changed everything.

After an accident forced Luis Ramirez '13 to rethink his future, he found a new path through New England Tech’s Surgical Technology program. As a Surgical Technologist, Luis helped prepare operating rooms, manage sterile instruments, and support surgeons during complex procedures where every second counts.

But the skills and experience he gained at NEIT opened doors far beyond the operating room. Today, he serves as a Senior Territory Manager in the cardiac and vascular medical device industry, helping support complex procedures and improve patient outcomes.

With seamless credit transfers and accelerated degree programs, students can stay on track and enter the workforce faster.

This week, we welcomed 250+ students from Pawtucket to campus for Experience Tech, a day dedicated to hands-on learning, skill-building, and exploring future career possibilities.

Through interactive workshops in healthcare, criminal justice, automotive technology, and more, students connected with industry professionals, tried new experiences, and gained exposure to a variety of career pathways.
