Michigan State University Online Food Safety Program Since 2002, the MSU Online Food Safety Program has educated more than 300 students in 38 states and 16 countries.

Michigan State University’s Online Master of Science in Food Safety program (MSFS) is proud to be the only MS in Food Safety that is offered entirely online. Since 2002, the quickly growing Online Master of Science in Food Safety program has educated more than 300 students in 38 states and 16 countries – without requiring them to leave their jobs or relocate. The program is designed primarily for

mid-career professionals who want to gain leadership skills and practical expertise for addressing ever-changing concerns in food safety, food protection, and public health. The distinguished MSFS faculty includes food safety leaders from Michigan State University, other top-tier research universities, government, and the food industry. MSFS alumni work for organizations including: Kraft, General Mills, and the United States Food & Drug Administration. The College is bringing One Health to life in the classroom through updated didactic courses focused on practical learning and collaboration on all sides.

Crossover with the Michigan State University Online Food Safety Program is part of what made this refresh possible and creative and flexible teaching has made it engaging for students.

“As a clinical veterinarian, when you treat your patient, you center One Health in your practice because of the way your patient interacts with other things.

"You’re thinking about what they ate, what’s growing in the animal’s backyard, whether their humans are taking antibiotics, and so on. You would think about the animal’s environment in the way that you treat them—that’s a One Health perspective," says Dr. Elizabeth Hamilton, assistant professor, MSU Veterinary Medical Center epidemiologist, and One Health course series facilitator
