Have you heard of EEE or Eastern Equine Encephalitis virus? It is a virus spread to people by the bite of an infected mosquito. Horses are susceptible to EEE virus infection, and many cases are fatal. At this time, there are no vaccines to prevent or medicines to treat EEE. You can reduce your risk of infection from the EEE virus by using insect repellent, wearing long-sleeved shirts and long pants, and taking steps to control mosquitoes indoors and outdoors.

It is Hispanic Heritage Month! Today we celebrate individuals like Dr. Sarah Elizabeth Stewart, a Mexican American scientist who contributed to research on the link between viruses and cancer. Her research opened the world to the study of viral oncology. The human papillomavirus (HPV) was later identified as a virus that causes cervical cancer. Although the HPV vaccine was originally developed to prevent cervical cancer, the FDA now includes the prevention of ge***al, head, and neck cancers for both males and females.
