This spring's Spartan Bus tour has been a reminder for our faculty and administrators of what it means to be Michigan's state university.

When we listen to our partners across the state and engage in conversations at the community level, we can fully realize the impact Michigan State University and Extension have.

On May 6-7, the Spartan Bus Tour visited communities in and around Flint, Saginaw and Bay City. A few of the locations on the route included Michigan Sugar, Saginaw Valley Research and Education Center, and Delta College for the Michigan Sea Grant panel presentation.

Michigan boasts a rich diversity of amphibians, including a dozen salamander species.

Interesting fact: the word salamander originated from the Greek word salamandra, meaning “fire lizard.” Unlike lizards, however, salamanders lack scales and claws, and their smooth, permeable skin requires consistently moist conditions.
